How to configure a Stratus 2 for CELA Direct to Player access

Overview

These instructions explain how to set up your Victor Stratus 2 and use it to download books from your Direct to Player bookshelf. To learn how to get started with the Stratus 2, consult the Guide to reading CELA titles with Victor Stratus 2. You will find information about the layout of the player, ways to add and remove books to the player, how to choose a book for reading, and what options you have during playback of a book.

To add books to your bookshelf that can be accessed by the Stratus 2, you can select your own books or use automatic selection service.

Setting up Direct to Player on the Victor Reader Stratus 2

To set up the player you will need to use its menus. Note: To access the player menus the protective keyboard cover needs to be removed. See Stratus 2 layout description.

General instructions on using Stratus 2 menus

  • To enter and exit the menus, press and hold the Information key in the middle of the arrow shaped navigation keys.
  • To navigate between menu items, use the Left or Right navigation key.
  • To confirm your selection, press the Play/Stop key.
  • To return to the previous menu level, press Up key.

There are two methods to connect the Stratus 2 to your CELA library account and access your bookshelf.

  1. Using the Victor Stratus 2 menus
  2. Using a configuration file on a USB key

Using the Victor Stratus 2 menus

This method requires no computer and is suitable for most users.

Entering text using the Stratus 2

During the configuration process you will need to enter passwords and CELA account information. Here are general instructions to enter text on the Stratus 2.

  • Use the Up and Down keys to navigate the list of characters and press Right arrow to enter the chosen one. Note that you can quickly jump between categories of characters such as upper case, lower case, numbers, punctuation symbols etc. using the bookmarks key, immediately under the Bookshelf key.
  • To double-check what you have entered so far, press the Fast-forward button.
  • To delete a character, press the Rewind button.
  • To remind yourself what each key does during text input, press the Power button once to enter key describer mode. Pressing any key at this point will tell you its function. Press Power again to exit Key Describer mode.

Connect the player to Wi-Fi

If your player is already connected to Wi-Fi, you can skip to adding Direct to Player bookshelf.

  1. Turn the player on. You should hear the usual welcome message spoken.
  2. Press and hold the Information button to enter menus.
  3. Select Wireless, then New Connection, then Scan for SSID.
  4. You will be presented with a list of available Wi-Fi networks. Use the left and right navigation keys until you hear the one you want to connect to.
  5. Press Play to select it.
  6. You will be asked for the password for your chosen network. See Entering text using the Stratus 2.
  7. When you are finished entering the password, press Play/Stop.
  8. After a pause, the player announces, “Connected to Wi-Fi” and prompts you to optionally enter a nickname for your Wi-Fi network. If you want to skip, press Play/Stop again.

Add your CELA Direct to Player bookshelf to your Victor Stratus 2

Now that your player is connected to Wi-Fi, you can connect it to your CELA Direct to Player bookshelf to access your books.

  1. If you are no longer in the menu system, press and hold the Information button to enter the menus.
  2. Select Online Settings, then Book Services, then DAISY Online, then Add Account, then CELA Direct to Player.
  3. Enter your six-digit CELA Username. See Entering text using the Stratus 2.
  4. Press Play/Stop to confirm and enter the password for your CELA account using the same text input method as in previous step.
  5. Press Play/Stop to confirm. You may hear “Please wait” and a confirmation message that the account was successfully added. Your account is now set up, and you can use the Stratus 2 to access your Direct to Player bookshelf.

Using a configuration file stored on a USB key

This method may be useful if you have multiple players you need to configure on the same network or if you would rather enter text on a computer than using the menus of the Stratus 2.

You will need a configuration file stored on a USB key. For information how to prepare this configuration file, see How to configure an external storage device to set up Direct to Player service.

Connecting your player to the internet using Wi-Fi

  1. Power on the player: press and hold down the round Power button located on the right side of the player until you hear a beep.
  2. Connect the USB key containing the configuration files to the player
  3. After a welcome message plays, press and hold the Info button, located in the middle of the arrow keys, until you hear “Menu"). See General instructions on using Stratus 2 menus.
  4. Select Wireless, then Wi-Fi, then Import Wi-Fi Configuration.
  5. The player will connect to the Wi-Fi network using the configuration file on the external storage device.

Connecting to CELA Direct to Player bookshelf

  1. Go to the Main Menu. See General instructions on using Stratus 2 menus.
  2. Select Online Settings, then Book Services, then Daisy Online, then Import Configuration.
  3. You will hear “Import completed” and the player is now connected to the Direct to Player bookshelf.

Loading Direct to Player books to your Victor Stratus 2

By default, once Direct to Player has been set up to work with your Victor Stratus 2, the player will automatically download all books from your online bookshelf.

When a book has finished downloading, this will be indicated by a chime and a spoken message. Note that you can customize how you are notified about completed downloads using the menus.

You can also check the status of your downloads by pressing and holding the book Management key (bottom key on left side of face of player) for a few seconds. You will hear the battery status followed by the progress status of current download and the number of downloads in queue.
