Setting up Direct to Player on the Victor Reader Stream 2
These instructions will guide you through the steps needed to access Direct to Player books on your Victor Stream. There are two methods, one using the Victor Stream only, and one using the Humanware Companion software on a computer.
Method 1: Using the Victor Stream only, no computer
Connect the player to wi-fi
If your player is already connected to wi-fi, you can skip to adding Direct to Player.
- Turn the player on. You should hear the usual welcome message spoken.
- Press the Online Bookshelf button until you hear the player say Bookshelf: Podcasts; this may require you to press the button more than once.
- Then, press the number 7 key on the keypad until you hear the player say Wireless: Airplane mode off. This may require you to press the button more than once.
- Then press the number 8 key on the keypad twice, or until you hear the player say Scan for available Connections. Press the pound key to select this option.
- The player will begin to announce a list of available wi-fi connections that it is able to connect to. Press the 2 or 8 keys respectively, to listen to each connection on the list until you hear the name of the connection that you want to connect to. Press the pound key when you hear it spoken.
- You will then be prompted to enter the password for the wi-fi connection that you chose, in order for the player to connect to it. Note that the numeric keypad also gives you the ability to enter letters as well as numbers, when entering your password; but you will need to use the alphanumeric keyboarding method to do this.
Add your CELA Direct to Player bookshelf to your Victor Stream
- Press the number 7 key on the keypad repeatedly to cycle through the different menus on the player. You will hear a different menu option spoken aloud with each press [example: general, wireless, etc]. Keep pressing the number 7 key until you hear the player say DAISY Online: Add a DAISY Online service.
- Once this option is spoken, press the pound key on the keypad to choose this option.
- This will bring up a list of available online library services that the player can connect to and you will be prompted to choose a service. Press the number 6 key on the keypad repeatedly until you hear the player say CELA Direct to player. Press the pound key to choose this option.
- The player will prompt you to enter in your 6-digit CELA Account Number. Enter this number using the keypad. Press the pound key to confirm when finished.
- You will then be asked to enter in your password using the keypad. This time, the keypad will also have the capability for you to enter in both letters, as well as numbers, depending on how many times you press each digit key on the keypad in quick succession. You will need to press each digit multiple times in order to enter in certain digits as numbers and not as alphabet letters. The following points of reference may help with this entry when attempting to enter in digits only:
- To enter digit 1, press the number 1 key once, as you normally would when entering digits. To enter digits 2 through 8 inclusive, press each key four times respectively until the desired digit is spoken [example: press the number 2 key four times quickly to enter in digit #2, or the number 3 key four times quickly to enter in digit #3, etc]. To enter in digit 9, press the number 9 key five times quickly; and the 0 key twice, to enter in #0.
- Once you have entered in your password, press the pound key, and wait until the player says DAISY Direct to player on. This will mean that your account is now set up and you can use the Stream to access your Direct to Player bookshelf.
Method 2: Using the Humanware Companion Software
The Humanware Companion software is a free, accessible Windows-based computer program that allows you to perform tasks such as transferring books from your computer to the player, as well as accessing books from various online libraries. It does not run on Mac computers.
Humanware Companion software product page
It is designed for use with all of the most common Windows screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, or Window-Eyes. Note that the commands given below will work with either the JAWS or NVDA screen reader but not Narrator.
- Download the software and install it, in the same way that you would install any other application or program onto your computer.
- Ensure the player is powered off. Then, connect the player to your computer, by plugging in the smaller end of the included USB cable into the USB port at the bottom of the player, and the larger port into an available USB port on your computer.
- Once connected, turn the player on; and the player should say Player Connected after the usual welcome message is heard.
- Launch the software. On the main screen, press the ALT key on your keyboard to open the menu.
- Press the right arrow key repeatedly until you hear Tools. Do not press enter on Tools, but instead press the down arrow key repeatedly until you hear DAISY Online Configuration. Press enter to select it.
- A dropdown menu (or combo box) will open, asking you to select a library service. Press the letter C once, or the down arrow repeatedly until you find CELA Direct to Player; do not press enter on this. Instead, press tab until you hear User Name. Type in your 6-digit CELA Account Number.
- Press tab again until you hear Password. Type in your Password. Then press tab until you hear Export Button. Press enter to select.
- A confirmation screen will appear, confirming that your CELA account information has been successfully exported, [or copied] onto the player’s SD card.
- Press Enter on the OK button to dismiss this message; then press escape to return to the main screen. Then press ALT+F4 to close the software, just as you would close any other program on your computer.
- Turn the player off. Then launch Windows File Explorer and using standard procedures, safely eject the player before unplugging the player from your computer.
- Once the player is unplugged from your computer, turn the player on and the usual welcome message should be heard.
- Then press the number 7 key on the keypad repeatedly until you hear DAISY Online: Add a DAISY Online Service. Then press the number 8 key once, or until you hear Import a DAISY Online Configuration from File. Press the pound key to confirm this selection.
Wait until you hear the player say CELA Direct to Player: On. This indicates that the process is complete and you can now use the player to access Direct to Player books from CELA.
