Statistics

Statistics

When you log into CELA’s website with your library's main CELA account, you can see statistics for your library system by clicking the Statistics link on the Services for Libraries dashboard. You can view data on registrations, items checked out through the library’s main CELA account, items patrons checked out on their accounts, and items CELA sent to the library through the library’s deposit account.

To see the data:

  1. Select the year(s) and month(s) you want to see the statistics for, and select Update statistics.
The screen will reload with the statistics from the date range you selected.

Patrons registered

Total patrons: This number includes all patrons, educators and Client Access Support workers in your area who signed up with CELA since April 2014 or with CNIB Library prior to April 2014 and up to the date you selected (this includes registrations at the library, self-registrations, Client Access Support and educator registrations). This figure is cumulative.

Patrons registered this period: This number includes registrations by library staff, patron self-registrations, educator registrations and Client Access Support registrations completed during the period you selected.

Circulation statistics

The Circulation statistics table represents all items patrons checked out directly from CELA through their own individual accounts and items the library checked out through their ILL account during the selected time period. Each column shows the number of items checked out for each format and the column at the end shows the total number of items checked out. See the Accessible formats page for more information about each type of format.

If you select the Download detailed circulation statistics link, it will generate an Excel spreadsheet in which you will be able to see two separate lines for the library and patrons. The Library line shows the number of items CELA checked out to the library through their main CELA account and the Patrons line shows the number of items patrons checked out directly from CELA through their individual patron accounts.

Deposit statistics

This table displays statistics for titles that CELA sent to the library through the library’s deposit collection account. We ask that the library separately track the number of deposit items they circulate to patrons and send it to members@celalibrary.ca every month. The statistics libraries send to CELA are not represented on the Statistics page, but are used in provincial government funding reports. These numbers highlight the demand and value of local access to audiobooks through public libraries.

Total titles in deposits: This shows how many deposit titles the library received from CELA up to and including the period you searched for.

Deposit titles checked out this period: This number represents the number of deposit items sent to the library with their regular deposit collections during the selected period.

Circulation statistics reported by libraries with deposit collections

We ask that libraries with deposit collections track the number of deposit CDs they check out to their patrons and send these statistics to members@celalibrary.ca every month. We send a monthly reminder email to libraries requesting this data. Since these numbers are gathered at the local level, e.g. through your own library management system, they are not reflected on the Statistics page. These numbers are important for CELA to collect as they are used in provincial government funding reports. They highlight the demand and value of local access to audiobooks through public libraries.

Please note that as of July 31st, 2025, CELA will no longer offer DAISY audio CDs as a delivery option. After July 31st, we will no longer ask for your deposit collection statistics. Visit our CD transition resources page for more information.
