Véritable hommage à la mémoire de Paul Émile Savard, ami disparu, Toots fait la Shiva, avenue Minto d'Erín Moure dépasse la simple étude. Livre émouvant s'il en est, cet essai, dont on a dit qu'il constituait «un beau témoignage d'une… vie courageusement vécue aux confins des valeurs contemporaines», fait ressurgir l'existence d'un homme n'ayant laissé aucune trace, si ce n'est qu'en cette femme qu'il surnommait Toots. «Ce sont mes souvenirs, et le souvenir est un travail d'imagination», écrit Moure. De l'Abitibi aux quartiers pauvres de Vancouver, en passant par Montréal et l'avenue Minto près de la Cour de triage Glen à N.-D.-G., à travers des souvenirs et des recherches Google, des citations de Rilke et des allusions aux recettes de Madame Jehane Benoît, l'autrice honore la dignité de cet être cher, dignité dont elle seule, au fond, pouvait rendre compte.
