Summary
Hard Times was one of Dickens' later novels and portrays the author's somewhat cynical view of life as a dreary sort of underworld with artificially contrived happy endings that are not to be believed. Hard Times is sympathetic to the lot of the oppressed worker. Originally published in 1854.
