Young Allan Marley lives alone in the Beaver Flowage wilderness. One snowy November twilight, Allan courageously rescues a huge, black hunting dog that has fallen through the ice. The boy and dog are both strong and independent, and a bond grows between them. Grades 5-8. 1959.
