CELA loan limits

General limit

  • For most account types (patron, Educator Access and Client Access Support), you can receive up to 150 books, regardless of format, within any 30-day period. Library accounts have a limit of 2000 per 30 days.
  • This total does not include magazines. There is no limit to the number of magazines borrowed.

Limits by format

Direct to Player

  • You may request as many Direct to Player books through choosing your own titles until you reach your 150-item limit for all formats.
  • When Direct to Player books are issued through automatic selection, in most cases, the service will stop once there are 12 books, excluding magazines, on the virtual bookshelf. It will restart once some items are deleted and the number drops below 12.
  • For Envoy Connect users, Direct to Player books issued through automatic selection will stop once there are 24 books, excluding magazines, on the virtual bookshelf. It will restart once some items are deleted and the number drops below 24.

ZIP files

  • You may request as many ZIP file books (DAISY audio, DAISY text, ePub, Word, or e-braille) as you want through choosing your own titles, until you reach your 150-item limit for all formats.
  • ZIP files only remain in My Account in the "Available ZIP files for download" page for 3 days. After 3 days, the book disappears and you will need to request it again.
  • Please delete the file from your device when you have finished with it.

Braille

  • You may request as many braille books through choosing your own titles as you want until you reach your 150-item limit for all formats.
  • The maximum number of braille books you can receive through automatic selection is 3 a week.
  • Embossed braille does not need to be returned.

Printbraille

  • Individuals can have up to 10 printbraille items checked out at one time. Libraries may have up to 20 printbraille books.
  • The loan period for each item is 6 weeks (42 days). Check My Account to find out the due date.
  • CELA does not charge overdue fines, but printbraille must be returned so they can be used by the next person with a hold on the title.
