Le mythe de Dollard des Ormeaux brouille depuis longtemps la mémoire des relations entre Autochtones et allochtones. La légende est simple en apparence : en mai 1660, dix-sept Français commandés par Dollard des Ormeaux auraient entraîné quarante Wendats et quatre… Anichinabés dans une expédition sur la rivière des Outaouais pour piéger les Haudénosaunés, leurs ennemis. Les alliés auraient été massacrés à la suite de la trahison de plusieurs Wendats. Dans un glorieux acte de bravoure, Dollard aurait sacrifié sa vie pour sauver la jeune colonie de Montréal
