Summary
This text has been written to provide healthcare professionals with a meaningful and succinct introduction to how religion informs end-of-life care. I am greatly indebted to my students at D'Youville College whose insights and challenging questions in the context of… our course Challenges of Death prompted the writing of this text. Many of these students are healthcare majors who challenged me to explain how to care for patients of different religions from their own and the importance of religion for dying persons. In my search for a text that addressed this issue, I was surprised to discover that although a panoply of articles on effective healthcare for dying members of religious traditions exists, very few texts synthesize this scholarship for nonspecialists. This text synthesizes this material to provide my readers with an accessible introduction to important scholarship on this topic. - by Author
