Summary
At the end of the Second World War, a survivor of Auschwitz, her husband and most of her family dead, makes her way home to Hungary. After giving birth to another man's child, her husband returns home, forcing her to… make a choice that will cloud her life, and her daughter's, forever. The author is the daughter who grew up with the consequences of that decision, and who was raised on family stories that were both a burden and a gift. Their inescapable message of lost love and lost lives create a resentful divide between mother and daughter, until they finally lead to acceptance and reconciliation. Some descriptions of sex, and descriptions of violence. 2003.
