A wife and her four children face the death of their husband and father and the economic hardships that will come to afflict their comfortable middle-class existence. At first these adjustments are somewhat comic, as schoolroom problems and adolescent love… arise, but ultimately desperation threatens the hopes of each of the characters, who are all swept into the tragic downward spiral of fate. 1989.
