When lonely thirteen-year-old Cassie finds a large white dog in her backyard, she begins to feed him secretly. She does odd jobs for her neighbours to earn dog-food money. Then she discovers that her pet is really a wolf and determines to save it from capture. Grades 4-7. c1998.
