Alejandro Noriega, um escritor espanhol medíocre é solicitado pela ONU para elaborar um relatório das Nações Unidas sobre a guerra Zumbi na Espanha. Sua relutância inicial para viajar a Península Ibérica, ocupada principalmente por multidões de mortos-vivos, desaparece quando, uma… boa quantidade de dinheiro, é ofertada a ele juntamente com a promessa de rever sua família que vivia na Espanha mas acaba em paradeiro desconhecido durante a fase inicial da pandemia. O que começa como uma tarefa de recolher experiências pessoais sobre o holocausto zumbi torna-se uma jornada de pesadelo, do Gibraltar estendido para a fortaleza Toledo, o basco independente ou o Barcelona nuclearizado, onde Noriega está preso entre duas frentes que lutam para encontrar o misterioso Professor Saviola e a vacina para o vírus.
