CELA for Quebec residents

CELA service in Quebec

In Quebec, CELA service is provided through Service québécois du livre adapté (SQLA). SQLA is Quebec's provincial accessible library service, offered through Bibliothèque et archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ). It gives eligible Quebec residents access to thousands of books and other reading materials in multiple accessible formats.

CELA and BAnQ work together to ensure that all Canadians with print disabilities get access to library materials in both official languages.

How to register for CELA

Quebec residents with a print disability

  1. Register with SQLA by filling out the online registration form, or call them at 514-873-4454 (in Montreal) or 1-866-410-0844 (outside of Montreal).
  2. Complete CELA’s patron registration form.

Educators and other professionals who are Quebec residents

Educators and other professionals who are Quebec residents and wish to register for CELA’s Educator Access Program or Client Access Support Program must first register with BAnQ.

  1. Register with BAnQ.
  2. Complete CELA’s Educator Access Program or Client Access Support Program for professionals registration form.

All CELA borrowers who are Quebec residents can access most of the CELA collection, including:

  • All of CELA’s digital collection, available via Direct to Player and downloadable ZIP files
  • Books and magazines on DAISY CD in English (please see note)
  • Books and magazines in embossed braille in English
  • Printbraille (available in English only)
