Troubleshooting Tips

Recommended Tips and Solutions

For information and instructions on how to read or listen to CELA audiobooks on a variety of devices and apps, please visit our page on Compatible Devices and Formats.

For solutions or more information about common issues, please see our troubleshooting tips below. If you need more information or assistance, please reach out to our Contact Centre at 1-855-655-2273 or email help@celalibrary.ca.

Audiobooks

I can't start a book

If you’re experiencing issues while using a reading device or app, we recommend checking the user guide for your preferred reading tool on our Compatible Devices and Formats page.

If you aren’t able to find a solution in the user guide, please reach out to our Contact Centre via email or phone. You can call us at 1-855-655-2273 or email us at help@celalibrary.ca.

Book starts partway through

If a book starts partway, it may have previously been started. Your device/app will remember your place even months later, so you may have to navigate back to the beginning once you pick it up again.

I can’t navigate chapters

Some books have more navigation levels than others, and some books do combine multiple chapters into a single audio track. If you experience issues with skipping right to the end of the book or skipping chapters, try listening to a few minutes of a section before skipping to see if multiple chapters or even the whole book are grouped together in one navigation point.

Some reading applications work better than others. If you have access to more than one accessible reading application or device, try opening the same book in another app or device. If not, please report the problem, and let us know which app or device you were using.

Braille materials

Transcription and embossing problems

Some titles, particularly those from the Bookshare collection, are available in braille because of an automated braille transcription process Bookshare offers. While this process allows us to provide a wider range of titles in braille, you may notice errors in formatting and transcription.

If you encounter transcription issues with a title, please let us know by completing a Damaged Book Report so that we can investigate.

We can reissue books if you notice problems with the embossed copy, such as missing or flattened dots.
