FAQs – Newspapers

Do the papers have the same content as the print edition?

The papers are often not identical to the print edition, as the publisher may not have right to re-distribute all articles. Articles by writers on staff are usually included. Articles from syndicated press services are typically excluded. Features such as obituaries and classified are often managed as separate services online.

At what time are the papers updated?

The papers are typically updated by approximately 7 am EST on the day of publication. We do not always receive notice when there is a delay. If you find that a paper is not up to date by 9 am EST, please send an email to help@celalibrary.ca and we will ask our service provider to investigate.

Person reading a newspaper

Can I download a paper to read offline?

You can download articles that interest you to read offline. As each article is on a separate page, it is not practical to download an entire paper.

May I suggest adding a newspaper?

Yes! We welcome your suggestions. We are, however, limited to papers for which the rights holders will grant access. Currently, we have agreements with several publishers and providers.

How else might I access newspapers?

Public libraries usually provide access to newspapers in print and online. Ask staff at your local library if the library has a CCTV you can use to magnify the text in a print newspaper, if that's an appropriate solution for you. You may also ask about the electronic versions of papers available through databases such as EbscoHOST, which you can access from home with your library card. Note that there is sometimes a time lag in publication with databases.
