Manually Enabling the Accessible Reading Canada Skill

If you are unable to launch Accessible Reading Canada by voice command from your smart speaker device, follow the instructions below to manually enable the Accessible Reading Canada. You can enable the skill through the Amazon website or the Alexa app.

Enable Accessible Reading Canada Skill via Amazon Website

  1. Navigate to the CELA skill on the Amazon website.
  2. If you are already signed into your Amazon account, you can select the “Enable” button to link the Accessible Reading Canada skill. If you completed this task, skip to step 4.
  3. If you did not previously sign into your Amazon account with your browser, or your browser did not remember your credentials, you will find a "Sign In" button instead. You will need to activate this button and sign into your Amazon account.
    • To sign into your Amazon account, you will need the email address or phone number associated with the account along with the password. 
    • You may also receive a code via text message or email from Amazon to verify the account. 
    • Complete the form fields with all the required correct information. After signing in, you will return to the Amazon webpage titled "Amazon.ca: Accessible Reading Canada: Alexa Skills."
    • Once signed in, find and select the button that says "Enable." 
  4. After enabling the skill, Accessible Reading Canada may automatically launch on your smart speaker device. The device will instruct you to sign into your CELA account by opening your Amazon Alexa app. 
    • If the skill doesn’t launch after enabling the skill, you can launch the skill manually. To your smart speaker, say the command, “Alexa, open Accessible Reading Canada”. Your smart speaker will instruct you to open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone.  
  5. You will be prompted to link your CELA account by logging in with your CELA account number and password.  
  6. Once your account is linked, you will be able to read books from CELA using the skill. 

Enable Accessible Reading Canada Skill via Alexa App

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app on your smart phone or tablet. 
    • Select the “More” tab, located on the bottom menu. The tab may appear as a hamburger menu with three horizontal lines, next to the lightbulb icon.
    • On the “More” screen, select “Skills & Games”.
    • Use the search bar at the top of the screen to search “CELA”. If you are using VoiceOver on an iPhone or iPad you may find that the search field appears dimmed and cannot be activated. In this case, with VoiceOver focus on the search field, swipe left and you will hear VoiceOver announce “logo other”. Double-tapping with one finger here will activate the edit field.
    • Select “CELA – Accessible Reading Canada”.
    • Activate the skill by selecting the “Launch” button and choosing your smart speaker device from the list of options. Your device’s name may appear as “Your Name’s Echo Dot”.
    • Once enabled, you can launch Accessible Reading Canada skill from your Alexa device. 
  2. After enabling the skill, Accessible Reading Canada may automatically launch on your Alexa smart speaker. The device will instruct you to sign into your CELA account by opening your Amazon Alexa app.
    • If the skill doesn’t launch after enabling the skill, you can launch the skill manually. To your smart speaker device, say the command, “Alexa, open Accessible Reading Canada”. Your smart speaker will instruct you to open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone. 
  3. You will be prompted to link your CELA account by logging in with your CELA account number and password. 
  4. Once your account is linked, you will be able to read books from CELA using the skill.
