By Fred Rogers. 2005

He studied at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Child Development and was ordained a Presbyterian minister, with the unique charge of working with children and families through television. Fred Rogers' relentless commitment to all that is best in people led to an astonishing array of honors, from induction into the Television Hall of Fame to the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Fred Rogers passed away in February 2003.Family Communications, Inc. (FCI), founded by the late Fred Rogers in 1971 to produce Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and related projects, continues to expand its reach through early childhood trainings, publishing, and new technologies--perpetuating the values and philosophy of its founder.Secret Santa
By Robert Tate Miller, Beth Polson. 2003
It's Christmas, and Indianapolis Sentinel reporter Rebecca Chandler has just been dumped by her boyfriend. Tired of covering the usual…
seasonal fluff -- and in no mood for warmth and sincerity -- she reluctantly accepts her editor's assignment to travel to nearby Hamden and cover the story of Secret Santa, a benevolent stranger who appears mysteriously every Christmas Eve to bestow a generous gift on someone less fortunate. But Rebecca has ideas of her own. Instead of the life affirming tearjerker her editor wants, she intends to write a hard-edged investigative piece unmasking the good samaritan. "After I'm done with him, he'll be known as the bleeding heart do-gooder, formerly known as Secret Santa. "That's what she thinks. Rebecca didn't count on Hamden, Indiana, a town that claims to live the Christmas spirit all year long. Small-town USA, complete with a main street diner and an Annual Christmas Pageant, Hamden is home to a cast of quirky characters, a handsome millionaire. . . and the most unlikely Secret Santa of them all. Determined to uncover the identity of the holiday philanthropist, Rebecca quickly learns that things are not always as they appear, and in the process of looking for Santa, Rebecca finds love, the honor of sacrifice. . . and the true meaning of Christmas. Giving in its purest formexpects nothing in return.Caillou: The Magic of Compost

to non-fiction filmmaking. Saunders examines the many methods by which documentary conveys meaning, whilst exploring its differing societal purposes. After a historical consideration of international documentary production, the author examines the impact of recent technological developments on the production, distribution and viewing of non-fiction. In addition, he explores the increasingly hazy distinctions between factual and dramatic formats, discussing ‘reality television’, the ‘docu-drama’, and less orthodox approaches including animated and fantastical representations of reality. Documentary encompasses a broad range of academic discourse around non-fiction filmmaking, introducing readers to the key filmmakers, major scholars, central debates and critical ideas relating to the form. By Peng Hsiao-Yen, Whitney Crothers Dilley. 2014
In 2007, Ang Lee made an espionage thriller based on the short story "Lust, Caution" by Eileen Chang, China’s most…
famous female author of the twentieth century. The release of the film became a trigger for heated debates on issues of national identity and political loyalty, and brought unexpectedly harsh criticism from China, where Ang Lee was labelled a traitor in scathing internet critiques, whilst the film's leading actress Tang Wei was banned from appearing on screen for two years. This book analyses Ang Lee’s art of film adaptation through the lens of modern literary and film theory, as well as featuring detailed readings and analyses of different dialogues and scenes, directorial and authorial decisions and intentions, while at the same time confronting the intense political debates resulting from the film’s subject matter. The theories of Freud, Lacan, Deleuze, Bataille and others are used to identify and clarify issues raised by the film related to gender, sexuality, eroticism, power, manipulation, and betrayal; the themes of lust and caution are dealt with in conjunction with the controversial issues of contemporary political consciousness concerning patriotism, and the Sino-Japanese War complicated by divided historical experiences and cross-Taiwan Strait relationships. The contributors to this volume cover translation and adaptation, loyalty and betrayal, collaboration and manipulation, playing roles and performativity, whilst at the same time intertwining these with issues of national identity, political loyalty, collective memory, and gender. As such, the book will appeal to students and scholars of Chinese and Asian cinema and literature, as well as those interested in modern Chinese history and cultural studies.
