K. Hall Perennial Bestsellers Ser.)
By C. S. Lewis. 1978
A repackaged edition of the revered author’s retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche—what he and many others regard…
as his best novel.C. S. Lewis—the great British writer, scholar, lay theologian, broadcaster, Christian apologist, and bestselling author of Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, The Chronicles of Narnia, and many other beloved classics—brilliantly reimagines the story of Cupid and Psyche. Told from the viewpoint of Psyche’s sister, Orual, Till We Have Faces is a brilliant examination of envy, betrayal, loss, blame, grief, guilt, and conversion. In this, his final—and most mature and masterful—novel, Lewis reminds us of our own fallibility and the role of a higher power in our lives.Making All Things New: An Invitation to the Spiritual Life
By Henri J. M. Nouwen. 1981
"During the past few years, various friends have asked me, 'What do you mean when you speak about the spiritual…
life?' Every time this question has come up, I have wished I had a small and simple book which could offer the beginning of a response. I have felt that there was a place for a text that could be read within a few hours and could not only explain what the spiritual life is but also create a desire to live it. This feeling caused me to write Making All Things New..." "The beginning of the spiritual life is often difficult not only because the powers which cause us to worry are so strong but also because the presence of God's Spirit seems barely noticeable. If, however, we are willing to live a life of prayer and practice the disciplines of solitude and community, a new hunger will make itself known. This new hunger is the first sign of God's presence. When we remain attentive to this divine presence, we will be led always deeper into the kingdom. There, to our joyful surprise, we will discover that the power of our worries is weakening and all things are being made new."- -from Making All Things NewThe Reluctant Pilgrim: A Skeptic's Journey into Native Mysteries
By Roger L. Welsch. 2015
Forty years ago, while paging through a book sent as an unexpected gift from a friend, Roger Welsch came across…
a curious reference to stones that were round, “like the sun and moon.” According to Tatonka-ohitka, Brave Buffalo (Sioux), these stones were sacred. “I make my request of the stones and they are my intercessors,” Brave Buffalo explained. Moments later, another friend appeared at Welsch’s door bearing yet another unusual gift: a perfectly round white stone found on top of a mesa in Colorado. So began Welsch’s lesson from stones, gifts that always presented themselves unexpectedly: during a walk, set aside in an antique store, and in the mail from complete strangers. The Reluctant Pilgrim shares a skeptic’s spiritual journey from his Lutheran upbringing to the Native sensibilities of his adoptive families in both the Omaha and Pawnee tribes. Beginning with those round stones, increasing encounters during his life prompted Welsch to confront a new way of learning and teaching as he was drawn inexorably into another world. Confronting mainstream contemporary culture’s tendency to dismiss the magical, mystical, and unexplained, Welsch shares his personal experiences and celebrates the fact that even in our scientific world, “Something Is Going On,” just beyond our ken.Guia do Iniciante para Desenvolvimento Psíquico

a spiritual seeker. His two extant journals, edited and annotated by Catherine L. Albanese, appear in print for the first time and reveal the inner journey of a leading American spiritual pilgrim at a critical period in his religious search. A voracious reader, he recorded accounts of intense religious experience in his journals. He moved from the Oberlin perfectionism he embraced early on, through the French quietism of Madame J. Guyon and Archbishop Fénelon, then into Swedenborgianism, spiritualism, and mind cure with distinct theosophical overtones. His carefully documented journey is suggestive of the similar journeys of the religious seekers who made their way into the burgeoning metaphysical movement at the end of the 19th century--and may shed light too on today's spirituality.Le message d'Un cours en miracles: une vulgarisation du texte en langage clair

What do the occult sciences, séances with the souls of the dead, and appeals to saintly powers have to do…
with rationality? Since the late nineteenth century, modernizing intellectuals, religious leaders, and statesmen in Iran have attempted to curtail many such practices as "superstitious," instead encouraging the development of rational religious sensibilities and dispositions. However, far from diminishing the diverse methods through which Iranians engage with the immaterial realm, these rationalizing processes have multiplied the possibilities for metaphysical experimentation. The Iranian Metaphysicals examines these experiments and their transformations over the past century. Drawing on years of ethnographic and archival research, Alireza Doostdar shows that metaphysical experimentation lies at the center of some of the most influential intellectual and religious movements in modern Iran. These forms of exploration have not only produced a plurality of rational orientations toward metaphysical phenomena but have also fundamentally shaped what is understood as orthodox Shi‘i Islam, including the forms of Islamic rationality at the heart of projects for building and sustaining an Islamic Republic. Delving into frequently neglected aspects of Iranian spirituality, politics, and intellectual inquiry, The Iranian Metaphysicals challenges widely held assumptions about Islam, rationality, and the relationship between science and religion.Il existe une solution spirituelle à tous vos problèmes

By Simon Jacobson. 2002
With a new foreword and chapter that address the upheaval that followed the events of September 11, Toward a Meaningful…
Life is a spiritual road map for living based on the teachings of one of the foremost religious leaders of our time: Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. Head of the Lubavitcher movement for forty-four years and recognized throughout the world simply as "the Rebbe," Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who passed away in June 1994, was a sage and visionary of the highest order. Toward a Meaningful Life gives Jews and non-Jews alike fresh perspectives on every aspect of their lives -- from birth to death, youth to old age; marriage, love, intimacy, and family; the persistent issues of career, health, pain, and suffering; and education, faith, science, and government. We learn to bridge the divisions between accelerated technology and decelerated morality, between unprecedented worldwide unity and unparalleled personal disunity. At the threshold of a new world where matter and spirit converge, the Rebbe proposes spiritual principles that unite people as opposed to the materialism that divides them. In doing so, he continues to lead us toward personal and universal redemption, a meaningful life, and God.I've Been Thinking . . .: Reflections, Prayers, and Meditations for a Meaningful Life

By Richard L. Smith. 2017
Little Church in the Wilderness is a novel that is both absorbing and inspirational. The story takes place in the…
1870’s when a Catholic priest gifted with the ability to heal both body and soul is sent as a missionary to Upper Minnesota. After the Civil War, Father Todd Edward Bose is ordained in Baltimore and his bishop sends him to the village of Whitefish near the Canadian border to form a parish and build a church. His life in the wilderness is filled with many trials, challenges, and adventures. Upper Minnesota in the 1870’s is sparsely populated with only Indian villages and a few logging towns only accessible by Mississippi River steamboats. A small contingent of Irish Catholic families migrated from Boston to Upper Minnesota in 1870 to scratch a living out of the skimpy soil and harsh winters. They miss access to the Sacraments, so they petitioned the local bishop in St. Paul to send a priest to form a parish and build a church. The bishop asks his friend, the Bishop of Baltimore, to send a missionary. He selects a newly ordained priest, Father Todd Bose, to serve that Catholic settlement. Young, energetic, dedicated, and gifted with special talents, Father Todd accepts his assignment and travels by train, boat, and horseback to Whitefish. Unaware that God has blessed him with special graces as a healer, he settles in the village, builds the church, and serves his parish as both priest and medic. His unique talent as a healer becomes well-known throughout Upper Minnesota and both Indians and townsfolks ask for his help. Father Todd is an amalgam of the traditional of service, dedication, and love so characteristic of the many of the priests I have known. All the characters depicted in this story as well as descriptions of places that existed over 100 years ago are fictional.Confucius: A Smile from Eternity

By Translation Tao. 2005
The Tao Te Ching#151;one of the most loved and widely translated books in human history#151;has appeared in countless English-language versions.…
But no modern translation has yet captured the essential thrust of Lao Tzu's work as a practical guide to living an awakened life. Now William Martin, whose acclaimed previous reinterpretations of the Tao (for parents, couples, and elders) have introduced or reacquainted this classic text to thousands of readers, strikingly translates the Tao's eighty-one chapters to uniquely address someone on a Tao#151;or path#151;with a practice. Martin frames his new translation with two illuminating, groundbreaking sections: "A Path," which introduces the Tao's nonlinear construction and explains how it works its themes; and "A Practice," which provides practical guidance for readers exploring each of the Tao's themes in depth. Martin's genius in this new translation uncovers how directly the Tao speaks to readers on or about to embark on a spiritual journey.
