What do knights in shining armor have to do with slimy snails and porcupines? A lot, actually! Armor & Animals…
brings together two things kids love to provide an entryway into the world of art. The armor collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, beloved by its young visitors, provides the remarkable helmets, shields, and more that appear in the book, and which experienced museum educator Liz Yohlin Baill compares to the shells, scales, and spikes that protect animals.Lively text paired with bright, modern graphics and real-life armor informs kids about art and animals in tandem. A rhino crashes into a knight, teaching kids that a group of rhinos is called a crash—so stay out of the way! Dragons may be imaginary, but a fire-breathing dragon etched on armor can still make a horse look extra tough. Kids can consider the helmets, goggles, and other "armor" they use that help make their own activities safer, and connect art to their world as they learn.Tin to Table: Fancy, Snacky, Recipes for Tin-thusiasts and A-fish-ionados

TINNED FISH MANIA: These canned goods aren't just for survivalists—they're luxury imports, souvenirs, and collectibles. We've reached an age, as Eater has pointed out, where Americans are willing to spend $45 on a tiny tin of conservas (as they're often called in Spain and Portugal) to snack on while they sip their wine. Bon Appétit is suggesting them as all-purpose stocking stuffers. Tinned, canned, jarred, preserved: these sea creatures are a pantry must-have. And Tin to Table shows you how to use them all! ONE-OF-A-KIND CANNED FISH COOKBOOK: Whether you are exploring a pescatarian diet or simply broadening your cooking horizons, this unique guide covers a wide variety of tinned seafood rather than focusing solely on a single ingredient such as sardines or salmon. Full-color photographs showcase mouthwatering dishes while playful illustrations round out the fun foodie vibe throughout.SUSTAINABLE COOKING IN A CAN: In an age of conscious consumerism, canned seafood can offer transparency about sourcing, fishing methods, sustainability, and mercury levels that can be difficult or impossible to trace among the fresh seafood at the supermarket. As more and more home cooks cut down on their meat consumption out of concern for the environment, canned fish offers a happy alternative, packed full of protein and omega–3s. Its convenience, nutritional value, and long shelf life don't hurt either!Perfect for:Home cooks, college students, picnickers, and seafood lovers A great host gift or self-purchase for those who enjoy entertaining An educational and practical resource for sustainable cooking enthusiasts Pairing with a specialty tin of fish to create a memorable birthday, holiday, or special occasion gift for foodies and cookbook collectorsStuffed: The Sandwich Cookie Book

Year by Epicurious, Vice, Library Journal, and more.First vegetables, then grains, and now, fruit. This is the beautiful follow-up to Abra Berens's Ruffage and Grist, with more than 215 recipes and variations for using fruit in sweet and savory recipes to highlight seasonality and flavor.Pulp is a hardworking book of recipes that focuses on all the ways fruit can enhance simple, delicious mains—for example, by elevating roasted vegetables, garnishing soup, or adding perfume to a roasted pork or brisket. Unlike Ruffage and Grist, Pulp is about regularly incorporating fruit to add variety and seasonality to main dishes.Home cooks and bakers alike will rejoice in the alternately sweet and savory recipes such as Roast Chicken over Blueberries, Cornbread + Lemon; Melon, Cucumber + Chickpea Salad; and Rum-Plum Clafoutis. The book also features helpful reference material, a Baker's Toolkit, and more than 100 atmospheric photos, delivered with the can-do attitude and accessibility of the Midwestern United States. Pulp features only fruits that grow in the Midwestern United States, so no bananas, passion fruit, or citrus here.CULINARY REFERENCE BOOK: Like Ruffage and Grist before it, Pulp is a truly useful reference cookbook. Organized by type of fruit, each chapter offers authoritative info and tips that the home cook can use to deepen their knowledge of ingredients and broaden their repertoire of techniques—all in the service of improving their meals. By Hugh C. McDonald. 2013
Reprinted Edition"When I first brought the President's head into my telescopic sight, he was leaning forward at an appreciable angle. …
My crosshairs were exactly on the back of his skull. . . ."With these chilling words the man who fired the fatal shot that killed President John F. Kennedy revealed his role in the assassination to the law-enforcement officer who had hunted him for nearly a decade. In this classic exposé, veteran cop Hugh C. McDonald offers a gripping firsthand account of his personal journey into the dark heart of an unthinkable conspiracy--to bring to light these and other shocking revelations: The astonishing truth about the shooter on the Grassy Knoll. How security lapses allowed an armed assassin easy access to Dealey Plaza. The fallacy of the "Single Bullet" theory. Who fired the bullets that killed JFK, who fired the bullets that didn't. Through the dramatic perspective of an eyewitness to history, Appointment in Dallas provides essential insights into the who, why, and how of the JFK murder, finally answering the questions that have consumed the American public for decades.Rene Girard, Law, Literature, and Cinema: The Legal Drama of the Scapegoat
By Eric M. Wilson. 2024
This book is the first monograph to critically evaluate the work of the literary scholar René Girard from the perspectives…
of Law and Literature and Law and Film Studies, two of the most multidisciplinary branches of critical legal theory. The central thesis is that Girard’s theory of the scapegoat mechanism provides a wholly new and original means of re-conceptualizing the nature of judicial modernity, which is the belief that modern Law constitutes an internally coherent and exclusively secular form of rationality. The book argues that it is the archaic scapegoat mechanism – the reconciliation of the community through the direction of unified violence against a single victim – that actually works best in explaining all of the outstanding issues of Law and Literature in both of its sub-forms: law-as-literature (the analysis of legal language and practice exemplified by literacy texts) and law-in-literature (the exploration of issues in legaltheory through the fictitious form of the novel). The book will provide readers with: (i) a useful introduction to the most important elements of the work of René Girard; (ii) a greater awareness of the ‘hidden’ nature of legal culture and reasoning within a post-secular age; and (iii) a new understanding of the ‘subversive’ (or ‘enlightening‘) nature of some of the most iconic works on Law in both Literature and Cinema, media which by their nature allow for the expression of truths repressed by formal legal discourse.Insatiable City: Food and Race in New Orleans
By Theresa McCulla. 2024
A history of food in the Crescent City that explores race, power, social status, and labor. In Insatiable City,…
Theresa McCulla probes the overt and covert ways that the production of food and the discourse about it both created and reinforced many strains of inequality in New Orleans, a city significantly defined by its foodways. Tracking the city’s economy from nineteenth-century chattel slavery to twentieth-century tourism, McCulla uses menus, cookbooks, newspapers, postcards, photography, and other material culture to limn the interplay among the production and reception of food, the inscription and reiteration of racial hierarchies, and the constant diminishment and exploitation of working-class people. The consumption of food and people, she shows, was mutually reinforced and deeply intertwined. Yet she also details how enslaved and free people of color in New Orleans used food and drink to carve paths of mobility, stability, autonomy, freedom, profit, and joy. A story of pain and pleasure, labor and leisure, Insatiable City goes far beyond the task of tracing New Orleans's culinary history to focus on how food suffuses culture and our understandings and constructions of race and power.Recipes from the World of H.P Lovecraft: Recipes inspired by cosmic horror
