By Neil Comins. 2017
If you have ever wondered about space travel, now you have the opportunity to understand it more fully than ever…
before. Traveling into space and even emigrating to nearby worlds may soon become part of the human experience. Scientists, engineers, and investors are working hard to make space tourism and colonization a reality. As astronauts can attest, extraterrestrial travel is incomparably thrilling. To make the most of the experience requires serious physical and mental adaptations in virtually every aspect of life, from eating to intimacy. Everyone who goes into space sees Earth and life on it from a profoundly different perspective than they had before liftoff.Astronomer and former NASA/ASEE scientist Neil F. Comins has written the go-to book for anyone interested in space exploration. He describes the wonders that travelers will encounter—weightlessness, unparalleled views of Earth and the cosmos, and the opportunity to walk on another world—as well as the dangers: radiation, projectiles, unbreathable atmospheres, and potential equipment failures. He also provides insights into specific trips to destinations including suborbital flights, space stations, the Moon, asteroids, comets, and Mars—the top candidate for colonization. Although many challenges are technical, Comins outlines them in clear language for all readers. He synthesizes key issues and cutting-edge research in astronomy, physics, biology, psychology, and sociology to create a complete manual for the ultimate voyage.Healthcare Insights: The Voice of the Consumer, the Provider, and the Work Design Strategist (Workplace Insights)

By Nuno M. M. Maia, Dario Di Maio, Alex Carrella, Francesco Marulo, Chaoping Zang, Jonathan E. Cooper, Keith Worden, Tiago A. N. Silva. 2024
World-class authors describe and illustrate how structural dynamics is applied to the engineering design process Structural Dynamics in Engineering Design…
covers the fundamentals of structural dynamics and its application to the engineering design process, providing all of the necessary information to implement an optimal design process. Each of its seven chapters is written by an expert in the field and provides the reader with the structural dynamic theoretical background and its more practical aspects for the implementation of an advanced design capability. The first three chapters are dedicated to the underlying theory of the three main processes: the fundamentals of vibration theory, the basis of experimental dynamics and the main numerical analysis tools (including reference to the finite element method). Having laid the foundation of the design philosophy, the following three chapters present the reader with the three disciplines of identification, nonlinear analysis and validation/updating. The final chapter presents some applications of the approach to real and complex engineering cases. Key features: Takes a multi-disciplinary approach and contains critical information on theory, testing and numerical analysis for structural dynamics. Includes a chapter on industrial applications (including aircraft design and ground vibration testing), which illustrates the design process and explains how structural dynamics is applied at different stages. The book is a must-have for researchers and practitioners in mechanical and aerospace engineering (in particular test engineers, CAE analysts and structural dynamicists), as well as graduate students in mechanical and aerospace engineering departments.Recovery of Values from Low-Grade and Complex Minerals: Development of Sustainable Processes
By Elvis Fosso-Kankeu, Bhekie B. Mamba, Antoine F. Mulaba-Bafubiandi. 2024
Recovery of Values from Low-Grade and Complex Minerals The book elaborates on various physicochemical properties of minerals and technological developments…
to improve the recovery of metals while ensuring cost-effectiveness and minimal environmental impact. The mineral industry is undergoing significant cultural, organizational, and technological transformations to address some of the major limitations and challenges related to the environmental and productivity domains. As far as productivity is concerned, the decrease of high-grade ores has been one of the stumbling blocks toward the achievement of maximum recovery of metals while, on the other hand, the complexity of minerals therein makes it difficult to profitably extract metals using only conventional methods. This book presents eight specialized chapters that focus on the exploration of the complexity of minerals that are likely to negatively influence the recovery of values, as well as the development of adequate technologies capable of improving the process of mineral concentration and/or metal recovery from complex minerals in a sustainable manner. It reviews the various physicochemical properties of minerals that are likely to pose a challenge during the attempt to recover values using conventional methods. It also elaborates on the recent technological development that has been considered by researchers to improve the recovery of metals from gangue-dominated minerals while ensuring cost-effectiveness and minimal adverse environmental impact. Audience This book will be of interest to academic researchers from the fields of mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, geochemistry, environment, chemistry, engineering, and professionals including mining plant operators, environmental managers in the industries, government regulatory bodies officers, and environmentalists.Paddle Against the Flow: Lessons on Life from Doers, Creators, and Cultural Rebels

safe. So, when it came to doing a chat show, he threw out the rule book: going in blind, not knowing who would turn up. It could be a global star, like Adam Clayton, or a statesman like Michael D Higgins, or someone unknown to Tommy (and most of his audience), like autism awareness activist, Ciara-Beth Ni Ghriofa or geneticist Aoife McLysaght. It's high-wire stuff and makes for electrifying viewing. Winging It brings together twenty-one extraordinary interviews from The Tommy Tiernan Show on RTÉ One - a mix of the profound, the profane, the funny and the moving.Tommy's belief in honest conversation is at the heart of Winging It. Whether getting to grips with the finer points of boxing with World Champion Kellie Harrington or preserving history with archivist Catriona Crowe. Or talking God with old friend Michael Harding or mental health with Blindboy Boatclub. Or sitting with moments of pain in conversations about grief (Bob Geldof), FGM (Ifrah Ahmed) or drinking (Paul McGrath). It's all about curiosity, bravery and a willingness to listen.Winging It includes material that did not make the TV screen and the interviews are as gripping to read as they were to watch.'Tiernan is superb at forming a rapport ...
