This reference guide documents white-collar crimes by individuals and businesses over the past 150 years, offering the most comprehensive array…
of documents and interpretations available. From Gilded Age railroad scandals to the muckraking period and from the Savings and Loan debacle to corporate fallout during the recent economic meltdown, some individuals and companies have chosen to take the low road to achieve "the American dream." While these offenders throughout modern history may have lacked ethics, morals, or good judgment, they certainly were not wanting in terms of creativity. White-Collar and Corporate Crime: A Documentary and Reference Guide traces the fascinating history of white-collar and corporate criminal behavior from the 1800s through the 2010 passage of the Dodd-Frank financial reform measure. Author Gilbert Geis scrutinizes more than a century of episodes involving corporate corruption and other self-serving behaviors that violate antitrust laws, bribery statutes, and fraud laws. The various attempts made by authorities to rein in greed and the methods employed by wrongdoers to evade these controls are also discussed and evaluated.By Rebecca Valley. 2022

This true crime biography details the remarkable rise of the 19th century mob boss who ran Chicago from the streets to…
the mayor&’s office. Michael Cassius McDonald arrived in Chicago as a teenage gambler and scam artist who quickly hustled his way into running the city through its criminal underworld. Long before the reign of Al Capone, McDonald was Chicago&’s original mob boss. He procured presidential pardons, fixed juries, stuffed mayoral ballot boxes, and operated the city's most popular—and most crooked—gambling parlor. But McDonald also maintained a reputation as a decent man. He was a philanthropist who befriended Clarence Darrow, promoted the World's Fair, ran the Chicago Globe newspaper—where he employed Theodore Dreiser—and funded the Lake Street L. Meanwhile, he had multiple marriages mired in love triangles and murder trials. His remarkable story comes to life in this.By Hope Fields. 2018
Thank You, God! is a Christian book for children and families. The book is intended for parents to read to…
their children or children can read on their own about what God has done. The words rhyme and repeat to make reading fun. Rhyming and repetition of books are great ways for children to recognize sounds of language as well as remember the words of the books. The visuals are colorful and relatable to children, in addition to being easily identifiable. The photographs match the words beautifully and make the words come to life. My goal is to encourage families to read the bible, which is why most pages reference a scripture that correlates to the words. Thank You God! opens the door to show children what God has done, but the bible goes deeper and shows us why we are thankful for all he has given us. This book can be a bridge to reading the bible as a family. My prayer is that this book can help families who may not be as familiar with God&’s word, but want God&’s word to be an integral part of their day. As you read Thank You, God! refer to your bible and learn so much more of what God has done.By Thomas Nelson. 2023

With today's climate change, our environmental problems aren’t going away any time soon.To Save the Earth looks at the lives…
of four extraordinary Americans who fought to save our earth. John Muir, a pioneer of conservationism, was the founder of our national park system. Rachel Carson, biologist and author, educated our country about the effects of pesticides and chemical waste. David McTaggart, the organizer of Greenpeace, introduced nonviolent protest into the struggle, while Dave Foreman, cofounder and former leader of the activist group Earth First!, shook up a movement that had grown complacent. The biographies of each of these figures, as well as personal interviews with David McTaggart and Dave Foreman, help us to understand the environmental movement specific to the United States. With current issues of excessive pollution and climate change, this is an excellent resource for introducing young readers to the cause. Upon first publication, To Save the Earth was chosen as a Junior Library Guild Selection, and now, this fascinating and important book is back in print to teach a whole new generation of readers the importance of environmental conservation and preservation.By Max Lucado, Randy Frazee, Karen Davis Hill. 1995
