and Analysis two expert finance academics with professional experience deliver a practical new text for doctoral and masters’ students and also new practitioners. The book draws on the authors extensive combined experience teaching, researching, and consulting on this topic and strikes an effective balance between fine-grained quantitative detail and high-level theoretical explanations. The authors fill the gap left by books directed at masters’-level students that often lack mathematical rigor. Further, books aimed at mathematically trained graduate students often lack quantitative explanations and critical foundational materials. Thus, this book provides the technical background required to understand the more advanced mathematics used in this discipline, in class, in research, and in practice. Readers will also find: Tables, figures, line drawings, practice problems (with a solutions manual), references, and a glossary of commonly used specialist terms Review of material in calculus, probability theory, and asset pricing Coverage of both arithmetic and geometric Brownian motion Extensive treatment of the mathematical and economic foundations of the binomial and Black-Scholes-Merton models that explains their use and derivation, deepening readers’ understanding of these essential models Deep discussion of essential concepts, like arbitrage, that broaden students’ understanding of the basis for derivative pricing Coverage of pricing of forwards, futures, and swaps, including arbitrage-free term structures and interest rate derivativesAn effective and hands-on text for masters’-level and PhD students and beginning practitioners with an interest in financial derivatives pricing, Foundations of the Pricing of Financial Derivatives is an intuitive and accessible resource that properly balances math, theory, and practical applications to help students develop a healthy command of a difficult subject.Teach Yourself VISUALLY MacBook Pro and MacBook Air (Teach Yourself VISUALLY (Tech))

By Tracy Clark. 2018
After a fatal shooting on a rooftop, a traumatized Cassandra Raines quits the Chicago P.D. with one less black female…
homicide detective. But when she stumbles across the dead body of a respected member of the community, it's up to her to prove a murderer is on the loose in this first installment of the Chicago Mystery series by Chicago journalist Tracy Clark. Cops can make mistakes, even when they're not rookies. If anyone knows that it's Cass Raines, who took a bullet two years ago after an incompetent colleague screwed up a tense confrontation with an armed suspect. Deeply traumatized by the incident, Cass resigned from the Chicago PD, leaving one less female African-American on the force. Now she's the head of a one-woman private investigation agency, taking on just enough work to pay the bills. She spends the rest of her time keeping an eye on the tenants in her little Hyde Park apartment building, biking along the lakefront, and playing chess with the only father figure she's ever known, Father Ray Heaton. When Father Ray asks Cass to look into a recent spate of vandalism at his church, she readily agrees to handle the case. But only hours later she's horrified to discover his murdered body in the church confessional, a dead gangbanger sprawled out nearby. She knew Pop, as she called him, had ticked off plenty of people, from slumlords to drug dealers and even some parishioners and politicians, with his uncompromising defense of the downtrodden. But a late-night random theft doesn't seem like much of a motive at a cash-strapped parish like Saint Brendan's. The lead detective assigned to the case is all too ready to dismiss it as an interrupted burglary gone awry, just another statistic in a violent city. But Cass's instincts tell her otherwise, and badge or no badge, she intends to see justice done . . .Wicked Bite (Dark Protectors: The Witch Enforcers #5)

By Deborah Schultz, Edward Timms. 2009
This book investigates creative responses to the Nazi period in the work of three artists, Felix Nussbaum, Charlotte Salomon and…
Arnold Daghani, focusing on their use of pictorial narrative. It analyses their contrasting aesthetic strategies and their innovative forms of artistic production. In contrast with the autonomous, modernist art object, their works were explicitly linked with the historical conditions under which they were produced – the pressures of persecution and exile. Conditions in the slave labour camps and ghettos in the Ukraine, which shaped the paintings and drawings of Daghani, are contrasted with the experiences of exile in Belgium and France, which inspired Nussbaum and Salomon. In defiance of conventional artistic practice, they produced word-image combinations that can be read as narrative sequences, incorporating specific references to political events. While there has been a wealth of literary, philosophical and historical studies relating to the Holocaust, aesthetic debate has developed less extensively. This is the first comparative study of three artists who are only belatedly achieving recognition and the recent reception of their work is evaluated. By identifying the aesthetic principles and narrative strategies underlying their work, the book reassesses their achievement in creating new forms of modernism with an unmistakable political momentum. This book was published as a special issue of Word & Image.Mapping South Asian Masculinities: Men and Political Crises (South Asian History and Culture)
By Chandrima Chakraborty. 2015
This book offers the first substantial critical examination of men and masculinities in relation to political crises in South Asian…
literatures and cultures. It employs political crisis as a frame to analyze how South Asian men and masculinities have been shaped by critical historical events, events which have redrawn maps and remapped or unmapped bodies with different effects. These include colonialism, anti-colonialism, state formations, civil wars, religious conflicts, and migration. Political crisis functions as a framing device to offer nuances and clarifications to the assumed visibility of male bodies and male activities during political crisis. The focus on masculinities in historical moments of crisis divests masculinity of its naturalization and calls for a heterogeneous conceptualization of the everyday practices and experiences of ‘being a man.’ Written by scholars from a variety of theoretical perspectives and disciplinary approaches, and drawing on a range of written and visual texts, this book contributes to this recent rethinking of South Asian literary and cultural history by engaging masculinity as a historicized category of analysis that accommodates an understanding of history as differentiated encounters among bodies, cultures, and nations. This book was originally published as a special issue of South Asian History and Culture.Emerging Topics on Father Attachment: Considerations in Theory, Context and Development
By Lisa A. Newland, Harry S. Freeman and Diana D. Coyl. 2011
This book is the first of its kind to focus specifically on children’s attachment to fathers, and explores the connections…
among fathering, family dynamics, and attachment relationships. It includes theoretical, methodological and research reports written by an interdisciplinary group of researchers from around the globe. The purpose of this book is to familiarize the reader with the conceptualization, measurement and provisions of the attachment bond between children and their fathers, from infancy through young adulthood and across diverse individual, family, community, and cultural systems. Recent empirical findings suggest that new methods of measuring child-father attachment are warranted, and that attachment to fathers may be unique from, but complementary to attachment to mothers. These findings also suggest that attachment to fathers uniquely predicts children’s healthy developmental outcomes, and these findings are robust across various contexts, but these predictive relationships are best understood within context. This book provides a summary of current scholarly knowledge of fathering and attachment, and describes future directions to be explored by professionals, policy makers and practitioners within family services, education, and social work settings. It is also of interest to the general public. This book was published as a special issue of Early Child Development and Care.Robert A. Dahl: an unended quest
By David A. Baldwin, Mark Haugaard. 2016
This book is devoted to the work of Robert A. Dahl, who passed away in 2014. Dahl was one of…
the most important American political scientists and normative democratic theorists of the post-war era, and he was also an influential teacher who mentored some of the most significant academics of the next two generations of American political science. As an incredibly productive scholar he had a career that spanned more than half a century, his first book was published in 1950 his last was in 2007 at the age of 92. As a political scientist, he was respected even by those who were critical of his works. This theoretical significance and profound influence is reflected in the collection of chapters in this volume, which reads like a ‘who’s who’ of the contemporary US political science scene. His co-author Bruce Stinebrickner documents the evolution of his and Dahl’s seminal text, Modern Political Analysis and how it became the standard introduction to American political science for nearly fifty years. Katharine MacKinnon’s chapter is of significance for its insights upon Dahl and also represents a succinct statement of a feminist reading and critique of contemporary political science. Steven Lukes contributes a highly concise statement of the difference between one-dimensional and three-dimensional power. This work will be a standard reference work for any researchers or those interested in the work of Robert Dahl, among both established academics and students. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Political Power.Bullying: A Social Influence Perspective
By Paul R. Nail and Joan B. Simon. 2016
There was a time when bullying was regarded as a relatively innocuous issue—a normal part of growing up—but this is…
no longer the case. The magnitude of the problems that bullying can lead to is evidenced by the rising amount of professional literature on bullying, as well as recent cases of bully-linked suicide and homicide in the popular media. Bullying always involves at least one bully and one victim, but there are a variety of social roles that can affect the duration and magnitude of bullying. These roles include bully assistants or supporters, victim defenders, and passive bystanders. Fundamental to creating successful intervention programs to prevent or reduce bullying is basic research that identifies the characteristics of those involved in bullying situations (e.g., personality, motivational, intellectual, physical, social, and behavioural). This volume presents a broad range of original research describing how social influences are related to bullying. Reflecting the fact that bullying is a world-wide phenomenon and problem, the research comes from samples of individuals from Australia, Finland, Italy, New England, and Poland, as well as a review of the cyber-bullying literature, which is international in scope. This book was originally published as a special issue of Social Influence. The Cultural Politics of Queer Theory in Education Research
By Christina Gowlett and Mary Lou Rasmussen. 2016
The Cultural Politics of Queer Theory in Education Research represents the editors’ intention to disrupt cycles of thinking about the…
place of queer theory in educational research. The book aims to encourage dialogue about the objects and subjects of queer research, the forms of politics incited by the use of queer theory in education, and the methodological approaches used by scholars when queer(y)ing. The contributions to this book come from those who find queer theory problematic, as well as from those who continue to see a productive place for queer research in education, however that may be defined. The editors have collected contributions that attend to the boundaries that are placed around queer research in education by researchers themselves, and by peers, ethics committees, funding bodies and university and government bureaucracies. Considering how key researchers in gender and education identify with, or deliberately distance themselves from, queer theory, this collection grapples with the contemporary cultural politics of doing queer theoretical work in different education spaces and places. In short, it seeks to disrupt what people think they already know about the ‘place’ of queer theory in education. This book was originally published as a special issue of Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education.Paediatric Cases in Coloured Skin
