qui le vénérait littéralement, Jacques Ferron a mené une double carrière, celle du médecin qui a œuvré dans les milieux pauvres et celle de l'écrivain qui a dû attendre longtemps avant d'obtenir une certaine reconnaissance. Jacques Ferron était un être complexe. Timide, il a pourtant fondé le Parti Rhinocéros, un parti de la dérision qui a rallié la jeunesse autour de lui ; écrivain, il s'est plutôt tenu à l'écart des cliques littéraires ; épistolier, il a envoyé des centaines de lettres incendiaires ou comiques aux journaux ; humble, il n'a jamais oublié qu'il a publié son premier livre à compte d'auteur aux Éditions de La file indienne. De plus, il a été le négociateur pour les membres de la cellule Chénier du FLQ lors de la crise d'Octobre. Jacques Ferron était un homme tourmenté qui supportait parfois difficilement son existence ("Je me sens indigne de ma réputation", a-t-il écrit dans sa période dépressive). Il a d'ailleurs tenté de se suicider en 1976. Jacques Ferron a créé un univers littéraire complexe, rempli de néologismes tout autant que de considérations historiques et généalogiques.
