By Robert C. Atchley. 2009
Winner, 2009 Richard Kalish Innovative Publication Award. Gerontological Society of AmericaA spiritual life, one focused on personal growth and deep…
human experience, is a major focus and motivator for people over the age of forty. Yet there is a marked lack of rigorous academic study of spirituality's importance in the lives of aging people. Noted gerontologist Robert C. Atchley remedies this problem by developing complex concepts and language about spirituality.Spirituality and Aging incorporates material from two decades of interviews, observations, study, and reflection to illustrate ways of thinking about and discussing spirituality—what it is, why it is important, and how it influences the experience of aging. This book provides a nuanced view of spirituality and the richness it brings to the lives of older people. The book is divided into three sections, with the first providing basic frames of reference for examining spirituality and aging, such as the nature of spirituality, spiritual development, and the spiritual self. Atchley next focuses on two dimensions of spirituality that are likely to manifest later in life: becoming a sage (developing the capacity to bring spiritual light to everyday issues) and serving from spirit (creating opportunities for service that are rooted in spirituality). The last section illustrates how spirituality informs other aspects of late life, such as psychological coping and the experience of dying and death.Separating spirituality from religion—something few books on this topic do—Spirituality and Aging offers a plan for incorporating spirituality into gerontological scholarship, research, education, and practice. The Angel's Earring: Healing through Dreams and Creativity

By Neale Donald Walsch. 2004
Something extraordinary is about to happen on this planet. Humanity is about to create a new form of spirituality. This…
New Spirituality will allow humans to express their natural impulse toward the Divine without making one another wrong for the way in which they are doing it, and without killing one another in the name of it. When the New Spirituality is embraced by humanity, it will, of course, change everything. And that is exactly what is needed now. This book contains an astonishing prediction. And that prediction comes from an astonishing source. Author Neale Donald Walsch says it comes directly from God. Whether you believe that or not, you will find it difficult not to be swept up in the startling and profound vision of our near future contained here. Tomorrow's Godsays, point-blank, that humanity will soon re-create its experience of God in such a way that our experience of one another will be healed at last. You may agree or disagree with the contents of this book, but you will never forget having read it.This book is an exercise in political theology, exploring the problem of gender-based violence by focusing on violent male subjects…
and the issue of entitlement. It addresses gender-based violence in familial and military settings before engaging with a wider political context. The chapters draw on sources ranging from Michel Foucault, Judith Butler, and Étienne Balibar to Rowan Williams and Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza. Entitlement is theorized and interpreted as a gender pattern, predisposing subjects toward controlling behaviour and/or violent actions. Steven Ogden develops a theology of transformation, stressing immanence. He examines entitled subjects, predisposed to violence, where transformation requires a limit-experience that wrenches the subject from itself. The book also reflects on today’s pervasive strongman politics, where political rationalities foster proprietorial thinking and entitlement gender patterns, and how theology is called to develop counter-discourses and counter-practices.Journey to the Well: Connecting to Celtic Ways and Wisdom

By Shona Robinson-Edwards. 2022
This book explores the role that religion plays in the lives of imprisoned homicide offenders. Drawing on interviews in an English…
prison, the author examines how they narrate their life stories and how religion intersects with other categories to rebuild their personal identities after committing a crime and being labelled as murderers or killers. This book seeks to bridge the gap between macro and micro phenomena, examining religion as both a social institution and a personal experience. It also explores the mediating role of institutions with regards to the nature and extent of their influence upon individual choices and actions, and provides insights into the nature of the therapeutic prison. It seeks to create some clarity of understanding the complex nature of religiosity, narrative, identity, desistance and rehabilitation whilst critically examining elements of social identity that may restrict or enhance this process. It provides a series of recommendations for organisations working with convicted homicide offenders/offenders and speaks to academics and practitioners in the fields of criminology, sociology, psychology and religious/theological studies.Love, God, and Everything: Awakening from the Long, Dark Night of the Collective Soul

transformation • Shares unique maps and models for psychospiritual integration, spiritual awakening, and evolving consciousness • Examines the evolutionary continuum of the soul and catalytic astrological events that will influence humanity in the years and decades ahead Humanity is undergoing a planetary wake-up call: in order to survive the global spiritual, ecological, and cultural crises we now face, the long, dark night of the collective soul, we need to consciously evolve, heal our generational trauma, and awaken to the amazing potential we each hold for profound transformation. In this sweeping exploration of love, consciousness, and awakening, Nicolya Christi offers a deep investigation of the Great Shift of Ages that is now occurring. She shares detailed personal accounts of the extraordinary metaphysical, psychic, and out-of-body experiences she has had throughout her life along with the direct spiritual insights she gained as a result. She explores what consciousness is and examines the evolutionary continuum of the soul--including the voyage of the incarnate soul, the metaphysical-spiritual reality of the excarnate soul, and the beyond-soul reality. She also shares maps and models for psychospiritual integration, awakening, and evolving consciousness that she has pioneered. Examining the personal and collective human shadow, the author looks at the central role epigenetics play in our current fear-based reality and explores the impact of stories of wounding from a personal, ancestral, and karmic perspective. Focusing on healing generational and collective trauma, she shows how by changing our &“story,&” we can change the world and transcend the shadow of human experience. She explores spiritual wisdom from ancient cultures spanning millennia, especially the Classic Maya, and highlights evolutionary astrological events that will influence humanity in the years and decades ahead as we more fully awaken. Sharing her vision for the New Earth, Nicolya reveals how deeply feeling and envisioning our post-transformation future as if it has already happened will help bring it into being. She also shares a look into the new epoch of wellness, regeneration, psychology, biology, and technology that will unfold as humanity transitions from the dysfunctional old paradigm into a conscious and awakened new world.Discover the classic guide to past-life regression that reveals how soulmates are reunited across the ages, from renowned psychic researcher…
Dick Sutphen."There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that romantic partners, together in this lifetime, have been together before . . ."After being hypnotized and shown his own past lives, Dick Sutphen went on to become a practitioner of hypnosis and past-life regressions. Over the years, he worked with many people and discovered the importance of karma: that we have lessons to learn, and if we do not do so in one lifetime, we will encounter them in another lifetime. Other people are instrumental in our learning these karmic lessons, and we can be tied to certain individuals in life after life.In this book, Sutphen shares regressions with several clients and includes transcripts of their sessions. In hearing their stories, we discover what these people came to understand about the challenges in their present lives after they looked to the past.Originally written in 1976, You Were Born Again to Be Together remains a useful primer in shining a light on metaphysics and the amazing power of the human spirit.Discover the classic guide to past-life regression that reveals how souls are reunited across the ages.Reflections on God and the Death of God: Philosophy, Spirituality, and Religion
By Richard White. 2022
What is God? What does it mean to believe in God? What happens to God after the death of God?…
This book examines “the death of God” from a philosophical standpoint. It focuses on monotheism, polytheism, and nature, and it discusses the renewed importance of spirituality—and the “spiritual but not religious”—in response to the death of God. In recent years, religious belief has been in decline, but secularism cannot satisfy our spiritual needs. We are now living in a “post-secular” age in which the relationship between philosophy, spirituality, and religion must be re-examined. As an exploratory essay, this book engages the reader at a profound level, and considers a variety of modern thinkers, including Nietzsche, Hegel, Freud, Levinas, Assmann, and Buber. It offers a sustained meditation on the origin of God, the death of God, and the future of “God” as a guiding ideal.A Good Kiss

By Cynthia Dillard. 2022
An exploration of how engaging identity and cultural heritage can transform teaching and learning for Black women educators in the…
name of justice and freedom in the classroomIn The Spirit of Our Work, Dr. Cynthia Dillard centers the spiritual lives of Black women educators and their students, arguing that spirituality has guided Black people throughout the diaspora. She demonstrates how Black women teachers and teacher educators can heal, resist and (re)member their identities in ways that are empowering for them and their students. Dillard emphasizes that any discussion of Black teachers&’ lives and work cannot be limited to truncated identities as enslaved persons in the Americas. The Spirit of Our Work addresses questions that remain largely invisible in what is known about teaching and teacher education. According to Dillard, this invisibility renders the powerful approaches to Black education that are imbodied and marshaled by Black women teachers unknown and largely unavailable to inform policy, practice, and theory in education. The Spirit of Our Work highlights how the intersectional identities of Black women teachers matter in teaching and learning and how educational settings might more carefully and conscientiously curate structures of support that pay explicit and necessary attention to spirituality as a crucial consideration. All religions undergo continuous change, but minority religions tend to be less anchored in their ways than mainstream, traditional religions.…
This volume examines radical transformations undergone by a variety of minority religions, including the Children of God/ Family International; Gnosticism; Jediism; various manifestations of Paganism; LGBT Muslim groups; the Plymouth Brethren; Santa Muerte; and Satanism. As with other books in the Routledge/Inform series, the contributors approach the subject from a wide range of perspectives: professional scholars include legal experts and sociologists specialising in new religious movements, but there are also chapters from those who have experienced a personal involvement. The volume is divided into four thematic parts that focus on different impetuses for radical change: interactions with society, technology and institutions, efforts at legitimation, and new revelations. This book will be a useful source of information for social scientists, historians, theologians and other scholars with an interest in social change, minority religions and ‘cults’. It will also be of interest to a wider readership including lawyers, journalists, theologians and members of the general public. You Don't Have to Be Wrong For Me to Be Right: Finding Faith without Fanaticism

By Carissa Schumacher. 2021
Channeled Transmissions from Yeshua offering evolved, authentic, and original wisdom for the deepest realization of truth, love, and peace through…
balance, liberation, and transcendence from the burdens that anchor us to suffering and fear. As a child, Carissa Schumacher was told by an angelic presence that she would be a channel for Yeshua of Nazareth. She did not know what that meant at the time nor the impact it would eventually have on her life and countless others. After devoting much of her life to service as an intuitive guide and spirit medium, in late 2019, Yeshua's Divine Presence suddenly came through her channel for the first time. Over the next months, Yeshua shared his timely, universal, and revelatory messages. The Freedom Transmissions is the result. This singular book offers a pathway to peace by following the Four Elements of Balance: Simplicity, Stability, Surrender, and Stillness. When we embody these four energies, we create and attract the most abundance, nourishment, joy, and flow to our lives. The Freedom Transmissions unburdens us from unnecessary suffering, strengthens our faith and sense of wholeness, and restores balance and peace, reminding us that we are One with the Divine. The joy of these Transmissions is that they are for all people and not just some people on the basis of beliefs or dogma. Yeshua welcomes in all people who come in humility and a genuine desire to find and know self as One with God. This essential text encourages us to choose Faith over Fear, Forgiveness over Blame, Freedom over Suppression, and ushers us from the era of division and polarity to an era of co-creation, transparency, compassion, and equality.
