author, Malavika Kannan, when she was 17 year old. Malavika is an Indian-American novelist, feminist writer, and political activist raised in the suburbs of Central Florida and currently a freshman at Stanford University. In the ancient Indian kingdom of Kasmira, stories don&’t begin with &“once upon a time.&” Instead, Kasmiris start a woman&’s story with those who came before her: her parents, grandparents, ancestors. For fourteen-year-old Reya Kandhari, her story always starts the same: with the fabled line of Bookweavers, tracing centuries back to the lost Yogis—the mythical guardians of Kasmiri culture who created the world itself. As a result, Reya&’s entire life has been shaped by words. Words of mystique and mythology. Words of magic that allow her father, the Bookweaver, to bring his stories to life. Words of power that make him the target of tyrants who will stop at nothing to destroy magic in Kasmira. Living in disguise as a peasant in the fields, Reya&’s sole focus is protecting the Bookweaver&’s secret. But when her father is taken, Reya must flee deep into the jungle, alone with her best friend Nina and one ancient book. Grappling with Reya&’s newfound magic, the two girls find themselves in the center of a war of liberation where magic reigns unchecked, and destiny takes a dark turn. As the stakes get higher, Reya realizes that her father&’s legacy contains more power than she ever imagined. For Reya Kandhari is more than just a fugitive—she is a symbol of revolution. And that makes her a threat. In a tale of magic, Indian lore, and radical female friendship, Reya must pass the final test: the Bookweaver&’s daughter must weave her own destiny. The fate of Kasmira depends on it.Celtic Magic Tales

Wolfgran
By Finbar O'Connor. 2001
A sequel to the story of Little Red Riding Hood, Wolfgran is a wonderfully irreverent take on the world of…
fairy tales. Granny has sold her house to the three little pigs and moved into the Happy- Ever-After Home for Retirement Characters from Fairy Tales. But the Big Bad Wolf is still on her trail! Disguised as a little old lady, the Wolf is causing mayhem as he prowls the city streets, swallowing anybody who gets in his way, including several very polite policemen. Hot on his case are Chief Inspector Plonker, who thinks he has a werewolf on his hands, Sergeant Snoop, who has to melt down his darts trophy to make silver bullets, and a very clever little girl guide in a red hood. But will they get to the wolf before he gets Granny? And who will let all those little old ladies out of their cells in time for bingo? 'Finbar O'Connor's funny and well-written debut, Wolfgran ... will make a great stocking filler for eight to eleven year olds.' Dermot Bulger, Evening HeraldCharles Godfrey Leland and His Magical Tales (Series in Fairy-Tale Studies)
By Jack Zipes. 2020
Born into a wealthy and privileged family in Philadelphia, Charles Godfrey Leland (1824–1903) showed a clear interest in the supernatural…
and occult literature during his youth. Legend has it that, soon after his birth, an old Dutch nurse carried him up to the garret of the house and performed a ritual to guarantee that Leland would be fortunate in his life and eventually become a scholar and a wizard. Whether or not this incident ever occurred, we do know that his interest in fairy tales, folklore, and the supernatural would eventually lead him to a life of travel and documentation of the stories of numerous groups across the United States and Europe. Jack Zipes selected the tales in Charles Godfrey Leland and His Magical Talesfrom five different books— The Algonquin Legends (1884), Legends of Florence (1895–96), The Unpublished Letters of Virgil (1901), The English Gypsies (1882), and Gypsy Sorcery and Fortune-Telling (1891)—and has arranged them thematically. Though these tales cannot be considered authentic folk tales—not written verbatim from the lips of Romani, Native Americans, or other sources of the tales—they are highly significant because of their historical and cultural value. Like most of the aspiring American folklorists of his time, who were mainly all white, male, and from the middle classes, Leland recorded these tales in personal encounters with his informants or collected them from friends and acquaintances, before grooming them for publication so that they became translations of the original narratives. What distinguishes Leland from the major folklorists of the nineteenth century is his literary embellishment to represent his particular regard for their poetry, purity, and history. Readers with an interest in folklore, oral tradition, and nineteenth-century literature will value this curated and annotated glimpse into a breadth of work.No Place for Monsters (No Place for Monsters)

Cuentos para soñar un mundo mejor
By Manuela Carmena. 2020
Mistress Of All Evil (Villains #4)
