By Linda Papadopoulos. 2014
Life is full of opportunity for 20-somethings, but it's also far more pressured than ever before. Whether it's the proliferation…
or the homogeneity of images of beauty and success that wallpaper our world, we know what a beautiful woman looks like - and we know what a perfect life looks like too. We live in a world that floods us with expectations about everything - from what we should weigh to what we should wear to how often we should be having sex and how much money we should be making. As a consequence, we begin to feel that we need to tick all these boxes in order to have 'the Perfect Life'. When we inevitably fall short, we feel anxious - we feel that we are failing and have the sense we are losing control. As a result, increasing numbers of young women are battling with issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem, bullying, perfectionism, toxic friendships and relationships, pressure to succeed or conform, and poor body image. At an age when life should be exciting, fun and relatively care-free, more and more young women are adrift and struggling. Dr Linda Papadopoulos understands the issues and has the experience to guide and support young women to help get their lives back on track so they can feel happier, more confident, more in control. Whose Life Is It Anyway? offers valuable insight and practical self-help to empower women to throw off the burden of expectation and start leading the lives they want to lead. The Mind Makeover: The Answers to Becoming the Best YOU Yet

Distributed Creativity
By Vlad Petre Glăveanu. 2014
This book challenges the standard view that creativity comes only from within an individual by arguing that creativity also exists…
'outside' of the mind or more precisely, that the human mind extends through the means of action into the world. The notion of 'distributed creativity' is not commonly used within the literature and yet it has the potential to revolutionise the way we think about creativity, from how we define and measure it to what we can practically do to foster and develop creativity. Drawing on cultural psychology, ecological psychology and advances in cognitive science, this book offers a basic framework for the study of distributed creativity that considers three main dimensions of creative work: sociality, materiality and temporality. Starting from the premise that creativity is distributed between people, between people and objects and across time, the book reviews theories and empirical examples that help us unpack each of these dimensions and above all, articulate them into a novel and meaningful conception of creativity as a simultaneously psychological and socio-material process. The volume concludes by examining the practical implications in adopting this perspective on creativity.Boss Bride: The Powerful Woman's Playbook for Love and Success

By Henry Nicholls. 2018
A narcoleptic's tireless journey through the neuroscience of disordered sleepWhether it's a bout of bad jet lag or a stress-induced…
all-nighter, we've all suffered from nights that left us feeling less than well-rested. But for some people, getting a bad night's sleep isn't just an inconvenience: it's a nightmare. In Sleepyhead, science writer Henry Nicholls uses his own experience with chronic narcolepsy as a gateway to better understanding the cryptic, curious, and relatively uncharted world of sleep disorders. We meet insomniacs who can't get any sleep, narcoleptics who can't control when they sleep, and sleep apnea victims who nearly suffocate in their sleep. We learn the underlying difference between morning larks and night owls; why our sleeping habits shift as we grow older; and the evolutionary significance of REM sleep and dreaming. Charming, eye-opening, and deeply humanizing, Sleepyhead will help us all uncover the secrets of a good night's sleep. If I can t learn the way you teach please teach me the way I can learnIt…

S.
By Ulysses S. Grant. 2013
Among the autobiographies of generals and presidents, the Personal Memoirs of U.U. Grant ranks with the greatest. It is even…
more impressive in light of the circumstances in which it was created: Faced with terminal cancer, virtual bankruptcy, and a family he would leave without means of support, he took the advice of his publisher, mark Twain, and went to work. He completed the manuscript in eleven months-and died a week later, on July 23, 1885. Frank and unpretentious, Grant's memoirs tell the story of his boyhood in Ohio, his graduation from West Point, and the military campaigns in the West and Mexico that ended with his disgraceful resignation and a return to Illinois, where he ran the family store. Soon, however, began the rebellion that broke the Union and recast Grant's fortune, transforming him into the leader of the victorious Union armies in the War Between the States and giving him the perspective to describe intimately the capture of Fort Henry and Fort Donelson, the battles of Shiloh, Corinth, Vicksburg, the bloody Wilderness campaign, and Appomattox. Here is Grant the tactician, the alcoholic, the plain and tough professional soldier, the ideal commander-but most of all here is Grant the writer as he assesses himself and the events that forged his character, as well as that of the nation.Following the success of Andrea Shavick's Passing Psychometric Tests and Psychometric Tests for Graduates comes this book, crammed full of…

Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics: A 10% Happier How-to Book
By Carlye Adler, Dan Harris, Jeffrey Warren. 2017
From the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling memoir 10% Happier, this book will get you to meditate.…
Minus the pan flutes. “If you’re like many people, you’re intrigued by the promise of meditation but don’t know how to begin—or you’ve benefited from meditation in the past but need help to get started again. If so, Dan Harris has written the book for you.”—Gretchen Rubin, author of The Four Tendencies and The Happiness Project ABC News anchor Dan Harris used to think that meditation was for people who collect crystals, play Ultimate Frisbee, and use the word “namaste” without irony. After he had a panic attack on live television, he went on a strange and circuitous journey that ultimately led him to become one of meditation’s most vocal public proponents. Here’s what he’s fixated on now: Science suggests that meditation can lower blood pressure, mitigate depression and anxiety, and literally rewire key parts of the brain, among numerous other benefits. And yet there are millions of people who want to meditate but aren’t actually practicing. What’s holding them back? In Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics, Harris and his friend Jeff Warren, a masterful teacher and “Meditation MacGyver,” embark on a cross-country quest to tackle the myths, misconceptions, and self-deceptions that stop people from meditating. They rent a rock-star tour bus (whose previous occupants were Parliament Funkadelic) and travel across eighteen states, talking to scores of would-be meditators—including parents, military cadets, police officers, and even a few celebrities. They create a taxonomy of the most common issues (“I suck at this,” “I don’t have the time,” etc.) and offer up science-based life hacks to help people overcome them. The book is filled with game-changing and deeply practical meditation instructions. You’ll also get access to the 10% Happier app, where you can listen for free to guided audio versions of all the meditations in the book. Amid it all unspools the strange and hilarious story of what happens when a congenitally sarcastic, type-A journalist and a groovy Canadian mystic embark on an epic road trip into America’s neurotic underbelly, as well as their own.9 Days to Feel Fantastic: How To Create Happiness From The Inside Out
