The Life of a Racehorse
By John Mills. 1865
The Life of a Racehorse is a fictional biography detailing the life of a British racehorse from the horse's point…
of view. This book was republished by Cosimo in 2015 in honor of American race horsing, which got a shot in the arms when American Pharaoh became the first horse to win the "Grand Slam" of American horse racing (the Triple Crown, for the first time since 1978, and the Breeders' Cup Classic.) In this book, the horse, Sheet Anchor, narrates his life, from his time as a colt, through his training and racing days, to his sale as a stud from Tattersall's and his retirement. The story is revealed through Sheet Anchor's experiences and the dialogue of the humans he interacts with, including trainers, grooms, jockeys, and his master, Sir Digby. The Life of a Racehorse was highlighted in a 2015 New York Times article bringing attention to the use of the riding crop; it was cited as one of the only references to how horses might feel about its use. As such, horse lovers and race enthusiasts alike can look to this book for better insight into how horse racing has developed over the ages. The Way Back: The funny, insightful and hopeful family adventure you need in 2021

Peyton doesn't like foods that are gooey or gummy, sticky or slimy, frosted or flaky. And Peyton most definitely doesn't like chunky or lumpy foods. Thanksgiving is our most universal holiday, beloved by adults and children. But Thanksgiving can also be a challenge for young eaters who struggle with new tastes and new experiences. Peyton is the hero of this food lover's tale and she is determined to confront her fear of new foods by finding a Thanksgiving pie she truly likes, even if it's flaky, lumpy, or chunky.Shakespeare on Love
By Stephen Brennan. 2014
William Shakespeare is ubiquitous throughout the Western world as the master of the written word, and the above-quoted "Sonnet 18"…
is celebrated as one of the most exquisite love poems of all time. Love comes in all forms--friendly, familial, unrequited, and lustful--and impressively, the bard's canon works with them all. His views on love--whether they be amorous and passionate or obsessive and unsettling--are provocative to the mind and imagination. The modern reader will recognize poignant turns of phrase; though still used today, they originated from Shakespeare--known for inventing much of the modern English vocabulary. Shakespeare on Love draws from the entire Shakespeare canon: love sonnets, plays, and songs. Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and countless others all have their place. In one complete volume, discover the lyrical, the funny, the lewd, and the idolatrous passages on love as composed by the most influential writer of the English language.Beloved excerpts featured in these pages include:Sonnet 43:All days are nights to see till I see thee,And nights bright days when dreams do show thee me.As You Like It:Who ever loved that loved not at first sight?Hamlet:Doubt thou the stars are fire;Doubt that the sun doth move;Doubt truth to be a liar; But never doubt I love. For the World's Greatest Mum: The Perfect Gift for Your Mum
