The author provides various exercises that are not covered in the textbook. The Poynting vector is useful for understanding the energy flow into capacitors or transmission lines during a charging process or into resistors during a dissipation process. A comparison between normal conducting and superconducting transmission lines shows a clear difference in the energy flow, although the final stored magnetic energy is the same. The electromagnetic potential of electromagnetic transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) waves in a waveguide also presents an interesting difference: The electric potential is zero in one case and non-zero in the other case. The reason for such a difference is explored. The relationship between the electric charge and electric current induced on the conductor surface is investigated for an electromagnetic wave in a waveguide or for that reflected on a conductor surface. This exercise book can be used together with the textbook 'Electricity and Magnetism' by the same author.

Classical control systems are extended to broader classes of problems and more informative characterizations of the controllers’ performances are attained. Following an examination of how backstepping control and robust control Lyapunov functions can be ported to the native setting, numerous extensions of the model reference adaptive control framework are considered. The authors’ approach breaks away from classical paradigms in which uncertain nonlinearities are parameterized using a regressor vector provided a priori or reconstructed online. The problem of distributing the kernel functions that characterize the native space is addressed at length by employing data-driven methods in deterministic and stochastic settings. The first part of this book is a self-contained resource, systematically presenting elements of real analysis, functional analysis, and native space theory. The second part is an exposition of the theory of nonparametric control systems design. The text may be used as a self-study book for researchers and practitioners and as a reference for graduate courses in advanced control systems design. They are also a good source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, phenols, iron, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and protein as compared to cereals. They are more energy-packed than any other popular vegetables and have the ability to combat hidden hunger, which is a major global health issue. The potato is also considered the &‘king of vegetables&’ due to its versatile uses and is an important staple food worldwide According to the FAOSTAT database (2023), global potato production in 2022 was 375 million tonnes, with the top producers being China (95.5 million tonnes) and India (56 million tonnes). The United Nations declared 2008 the International Year of the Potato (IYP) to increase awareness of the relationship that exists between poverty, food security, malnutrition and the potential contribution of the potato in defeating hunger. Moreover, this magical crop can generate a higher yield compared to the other crops; hence, it is one of the most notable crops to eliminate hunger and poverty. Therefore, sustainable potato production is important for food security and social welfare in future climate change scenarios. It is important to inform that potatoes have a shallow root system and are highly sensitive to environmental conditions and climate change. It is projected that potato yield may decrease up to 32 per cent by 2050 due to increasing temperatures and drought conditions. Thus, future potato breeding programmes should focus on enhancing abiotic and biotic stress tolerance through the utilization of the natural germplasm conserved in different gene banks along with climate friendly agronomical practices. Moreover, potato breeding should benefit from the effectiveness and ease of molecular techniques such as marker assisted selection, genome wide association studies, functional genomics and transgenics. The development of new potato varieties can also be achieved via genetic engineering and genome editing. Disease free potato seed production requires the integration of tissue culture methods, followed by the production of mini-tubers under an aeroponic system. As it is a staple food for millions and demand for potatoes will increase in the future, which makes this crop suitable for future research. Starting with an analysis of American reconstructions of the Soviet threat in the 1970s, an early contribution to the emerging field of critical geopolitics, subsequent papers focus on the emergent formulations of environmental security in the aftermath of the Cold War and the environmental costs of globalization. Focusing on the implicit geographical framing in discourses of globalization offered a critique that extended the ambit of critical geopolitics to grapple with the issues of environmental security and the rising concern with climate change as well as the political identities invoked in that debate. In the aftermath of 9/11, similar arguments about contextualization applied to the American global war on terror and the revival of discussions of empire and its geographies, both in arguments for invading Iraq, as well as the wider discussions in policy discourse and popular culture. Simultaneously, the emergence of earth system science and the concept of the Anthropocene offered another way to highlight the dangers of fossil fueled economic activities. The necessity of fundamentally rethinking the premises of security policy in light of this recontextualization is emphasized in more recent contributions on climate security and the current ecological crisis.
