datasets from healthcare and direct-to-consumer genetics to provide learners with real-world examples and enable them to get their hands on actual data. This textbook is designed to accompany either a senior-level undergraduate course or a Masters level graduate course on health analytics. The reader will advance from no prior knowledge of R to being well versed in applications within R that apply to data science and health analytics. “I have never seen a book like this and think it will make an important contribution to the field. I really like that it covers environmental, social, and geospatial data. I also really like the coverage of ethics. These aspects of health analytics are often overlooked or deemphasized. I will definitely buy copies for my team.” - Jason Moore, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center “Overall, I have a highly positive impression of the book. It is VERY comprehensive. It covers very extensive data types. I do not recall other books with the same level of comprehensiveness.” - Shuangge Ma, Yale University “The book is comprehensive in both aspects of genetics, and health analytics. It covers any type of information a healthcare data scientist should be familiar with, whether they are novice or experienced. I found any chapter that I looked into comprehensive, but also not too detailed (although in general this book is more than 600 pages of comprehensive and detailed relevant information).” - Robert Moskovtich, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev
Informational Society: The Great Transition (Contributions to Economics)
Par Alfred L. Norman. 2025
This book explores the transition into a future economy where human work is largely replaced by automation. As this transition…
takes place job destruction will outpace job creation resulting in increasing unemployment. The author theorizes that the key challenges in managing this transition will be providing income for the unemployed, reforming a government dominated by the wealthy and corporate interests, and creating new social structures to replace work as a central focus of life. The book begins with a discussion of the concept of bounded rationality and how it influences the pace of technological adoption. The author also discusses how advances in technology—particularly in automation—affect both physical and informational tasks, transforming industries and reducing employment across sectors. Next, the author turns to government, addressing successes and failures in addressing current issues like climate change, immigration, economic inequality, and government capture by the wealthy and corporations. Government reform is essential for managing the social and economic impacts of automation. Positing that the transition period will begin between 2030 and 2050, the author recommends that planning should begin now to implement solutions, including a negative income tax, affordable housing, and a shift towards leisure-based social organization.

How Genre Governs Creation in the Medieval Icelandic Sagas (The New Middle Ages)
Par Yoav Tirosh. 2025
This book sets out to answer why genre matters when analysing sagas, medieval literature, and creation in general. How Genre Governs Creation…
in the Medieval Icelandic Sagas applies theoretical observations on the workings of genre to saga literature analysis, including media and film genre theory, as well as observations from reader-response theory. The text primarily focuses on Íslendingasögur, a group of prose or prosimetric texts that concern the medieval Norse world, usually taking place in the period between the end of the ninth and the mid-eleventh centuries and focusing on Iceland. Tirosh proposes new interpretations to several sagas, but more importantly provides a fresh perspective on the importance and application of genre theory to medieval literary studies.

La vita extraterrestre: Non siamo soli
Par Antonino Del Popolo. 2025
Siamo soli nell'universo?

Constructing the Present: An Investigation into Time-Consciousness (Studies in Brain and Mind #24)
Par Camden Alexander McKenna. 2025
Constructing the Present: An Investigation into Time-Consciousness investigates what time is like for us as subjects and answers the question…
of how our experiential present comes to be. While addressing a variety of outstanding debates in the field, the book proposes that our temporal phenomenology is best understood as transcending traditional forms of analysis. The book ultimately concludes that time is not something we experience, but rather the way we construct our experience of the world. In the spirit of William James, McKenna suggests that the present occupies a window of time known as the &“specious present.&” McKenna claims that the duration of this subjective window is determined by the real temporal properties of experience, but also that experiential events are, as Edmund Husserl believed, temporally directed to varying degrees and in nested fashion in a way that affects their particular qualitative character. This specific proposal is called ERA: the Extensional-Retentional Analysis of temporal phenomenology. Besides doing justice to our temporal phenomenology, McKenna&’s overall position aligns with contemporary predictive approaches to the cognitive architecture of the mind. This exciting new way of thinking sees the brain as a predictive engine whose ongoing activities construct our rich subjective experiences. Taking inspiration from this movement, Constructing the Present introduces a complementary position called Temporality as Iterative Expectation Revision (or TIER). According to TIER, temporal phenomenology results from predictive activities of the brain occurring throughout an integrated multilevel cognitive processing hierarchy. Such a system is sensitive to the ongoing flux of environmental stimuli while retaining prior expectations and constantly updating our experiences probabilistically to ensure survival. The actual activity of this ongoing process, rather than its content, gives rise to the felt present, which is continuously constructed anew. Constructing the Present: An Investigation into Time-Consciousness functions as a scholarly defense of a provocative, plausible, and cohesive set of theses, while also confronting numerous adjacent philosophical issues along the way. By approaching the subject from the standpoint of empirically informed philosophy of mind, the present work fills a significant gap in the literature. The book should appeal especially to philosophically inclined researchers and students interested in cognitive science, psychology, and neuroscience, as well as philosophy of mind.
