Mijn ervaring als Facebook-politicus gaf me de kans om het fenomeen van binnenuit te analyseren en te bekritiseren. Facebook is niet alleen een medium dat sommige politici gebruiken om hun ideeën te verspreiden. Het is een virtuele wereld die haar banden met de werkelijke wereld heeft. We worden nu met een zeer belangrijke vraag geconfronteerd: Zijn de Facebook politici virtuele of feitelijke politici? U kunt het antwoord tijdens het lezen van dit boek vinden, maar u moet begrijpen dat de Facebook-politici zich tussen twee werelden verplaatsen: de virtuele wereld en de werkelijke. The iconic symbol of a divided Europe, the Wall became a focus of western political pressure on East Germany; as Ronald Reagan’s famously said in a 1987 speech in Berlin, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” But as award-winning historian Mary Sarotte shows in [Title TK] , the opening of the Wall on November 9, 1989 was not, as is commonly believed, the East German government’s deliberate concession to outside influence. It was an accident. A carelessly worded memo written by mid-level bureaucrats, a bumbling press conference given by an inept member of the East German Politburo, the negligence of government leaders, the bravery of ordinary people in East and West Berlin--these combined to bring about the end of nearly forty years of oppression, fear, and enmity in divided Berlin. When the news broke, Washington and Moscow could only stand by and watch as Tom Brokaw and other journalists narrated the televised broadcast of this critical moment in the thawing of the cold war. Sarotte opens her story in the months leading up to that fateful day. Following East German dissidents, she shows how their efforts coalesced around opposition to the regime’s restrictions on foreign travel. The city of Leipzig, close to the border with Czechoslovakia, became a hothouse of activism, and protests there quickly grew into massive demonstrations. The East German Politburo hoped to limit its citizens’ knowledge of these marches, but two daring dissidents, East Berliners Aram Radomski and Siegbert Schefke, managed to evade the Stasi and film the largest of them from a church tower. They then smuggled their tape to West Germany; broadcast in both nations, the footage galvanized activists across East Germany, and precipitated the stunning developments on November 9. Facing mounting pressure from its own citizens, the East German Politburo planned to put off enacting any meaningful change to its travel policy by issuing a deceptive ruling that would appear to offer more freedom, but which in fact would allow the state to maintain strict control over its citizen’s movements. But the bureaucrats tasked with preparing the "new” regulations misunderstood their task, and instead drafted a declaration that said East Germans could freely leave the country. This declaration ended up in the hands of regime spokesman Günter Schabowski, who announced the rules at a press conference without understanding their import. Stunned reporters were soon broadcasting the news around the world. Crowds of East Germans began streaming to the Wall, prompting a showdown with border guards, who received no support or direction from East German leadership as the throngs multiplied. By 11:30, Harald Jäger, a second-tier passport control officer, had had enough and finally opened the wall to the mob gathering outside his gate. Even though East German forces successfully regained control by the morning, it was too late--for the wall, for the regime, and for Communism in Eastern Europe. Drawing on evidence from archives in multiple countries and languages, along with dozens of interviews with key actors, including Harald Jäger, [Title TK] is the definitive account of the event that brought down the East German Politburo and came to represent the final collapse of the Cold War order.

Het trok veel aandacht, wat me ertoe aanzette een volwaardig boek te schrijven over de geschiedenis van privatisering in Pakistan en andere gerelateerde kwesties, inclusief de vooruitzichten en de uitdagingen waarmee het op korte tot middellange termijn zal geconfronteerd worden. Behoefte aan privatisering Over het algemeen heeft de staat een of meer van de volgende privatiseringsdoelstellingen; 1. versterking van de privé sector. Dit was de drijfveer achter de eerste generatie van privatiseringen die in 1960 in Pakistan werd uitgevoerd, toen de staat fabrieken bouwde in strategische sectoren en deze tegen zeer nominale tarieven overdroeg aan de zakenlieden die terughoudend waren om in deze sectoren te investeren vanwege een gebrek aan vereiste middelen tot hun beschikking en hoge risico's. 2. Verbetering van de efficiëntie en dienstverlening van staatsbedrijven, al dan niet winstgevend, door het stimulerings- en beloningsmechanisme in te voeren van de privé sector die kapitaal, technologie en betere beheerspraktijken zou inbrengen. Pakistan privatiseerde het grootste deel van zijn staatsbedrijven tijdens de privatisering van de tweede generatie in de jaren tachtig en negentig. 3. Elimineren / verminderen van de enorme overheidssubsidies die worden gegeven aan staatsbedrijven die voortdurend verliezen lijden, maar die niet kunnen worden gesloten vanweg

Naast het tonemende bewustzijn over de rol en het aanpakken van de veelzijdige uitdagingen waarmee elk land geconfronteerd wordt, is de belangrikste reden voor deze interesse in openbare beleidskwesties de steeds assertievere rol van de maatschappelijke organisaties en de media. Ze willen weten hoe openbaar beleid dat een gewone man raakt, geformuleerd wordt en de manier waarop het bestuursapparaat werkt, zodat ze ingelichte oordelen kunnen maken en ingelichte maatregelen kunnen nemen. De formulering van het openbaar beleid heeft de afgelopen drie of vier decennia een metamorfe verandering onderggan als gevolg van de snel globaliserende wereld. Er zijn minstens vier manieren waarop globalisering de beleidsformulering in elk land beïnvloedt. Ten eerste, dankzij sociale en elektronische media, worden kleine problemen die een decennium of zo geleden alleen op de achterpagina van een nationale krant geplaatst konden worden, breaking news op de belangrijkste wereldwijde kanalen, waardoor belangbehartiging en sympathie bewegingen in verschillende delen van de wereld ontstonden. Ten tweede, met de snel globaliserende wereld, worden mondiale kwesties zoals aantasting van het milieu, klimaatverandering, GMO, enz., die alleen in de wandelgangen van de macht besproken worden, in de salons van landen besproken en sterke belangbehartigingingsbewegingen onder de bevolking scheppen. Ten derde, verschuiven de centra van feitelijke macht en besluitvorming van lokaal naar mondiaal niveau met het bereik van binnenlandse belangengroepen naar hun sympathisanten in internationale organisaties, multinationals en die in de regeringen van mondiale mogendheden. Deze outreach stelt hen in staat hun eigen regering te dwingen om aan hun eisen te voldoen vanwege de economishe en politieke invload van de mondiale spelers.

In de bredere achtergrond van snel veranderende regionale afstemmingen, zijn er verschillende conflicten en oorlogen gaande in het Midden-Oosten met diepgewortelde oorzaken die ernstige gevolgen hebben voor de regionale stabiliteit en mondiale veiligheid. Deze korte boek capsule begint met het uitleggen van de achtergrond van de algemene crises die het Midden-Oosten overspoelen, hun historische wortels, verschillende dimensies en de soorten conflicten en oorlogen die gaande zijn in de regio. Hoofdstuk drie legt het korte sociaaleconomische en politieke profiel van Syrië uit zonder te begrijpen dat we de grondrealiteit en historische context van de huidige Syrische crises niet kunnen waarderen. verloop van de ontwikkeling van een postkoloniale staat beïnvloedt Politieke economie van een postkoloniale staat: Pakistan was een typische onderontwikkelde Staat toen het zijn reis als een onafhankelijke natiestaat begon op 14 augustus 1947, met talloze uitdagingen, variërend van existentiële dreiging tot revolutie van stijgende verwachtingen van de massa's en het worden van een onafhankelijke, zelfverzekerde en welvarende staat in de gemeenschap van naties aan de andere kant. De nieuwe Staat ging deze uitdagingen moedig aan en begon zijn reis letterlijk vanaf nul. Van een van de minst ontwikkelde landen ter wereld ten tijde van haar onafhankelijkheid, groeide de Pakistaanse economie met een vrij indrukwekkend tempo van 6 procent per jaar gedurende de eerste vier decennia van het bestaan van de Natie. Gedurende deze periode verdubbelde het inkomen per hoofd van de bevolking, ondanks het feit dat de bevolkingsgroei nooit onder de 3% per jaar uitkwam. Dankzij genereuze militaire en civiele hulp in de jaren zestig en daarna in de jaren tachtig bleef de inflatie laag en daalde de armoede van meer dan 45% tot minder dan 20%. Dit momentum kon daarna echter niet worden gehandhaafd vanwege de minder vriendelijke externe omgeving en het onhandige macro-economische beheer van de opeenvolgende regimes in de jaren negentig. De economische groei bleef iets hoger dan de bevolkingsgroei en de inflatie overschreed jaar na jaar de dubbele cijfers. Bijgevolg steeg de armoede tot 33%, de buitenlandse schuld explosief tot bijna het gehele BBP van Pakistan, het hoogste in Zuid-Azië.
