From the award-winning author of On the Trapline comes a cinematic fantasy-adventure story inspired by Indigenous legends. One summer day, Lauren…

and her little brother, James, go on a trip to the land with their Moshom (grandfather). After they've arrived, the children decide to fish for dinner while Moshom naps. They are in their canoe in the middle of the lake when the water around them begins to swirl and crash. They are thrown overboard and when Lauren surfaces she sees her brother being pulled away by the Memekwesewak — creatures who live in and around water and like to interfere with humans. Lauren must follow the Memekwesewak through a portal and along a watery path to find and bring back James. But when she finally comes upon her brother, she too feels the lure of the Memekwesewak’s song. Something even stronger must pull them back home.

Ava's mom is about to have twins, and the pregnancy isn't going well. All Ava wants to do is stay…

by her mother's side, but instead, she is sent away to stay with her grandparents. Normally, spending time at the lake with Nonna and Nonno is wonderful. But everything is different now. While her mom's hospital visits are getting serious back home, Ava grapples with anxiety. As summer storms rock the island, electricity goes out at the cabin, and an annoyingly cheerful boy named Cody seems determined to pop up everywhere she goes. Ava can't be distracted from the feeling that something terrible, something irrevocable, is going to happen to her mom while she is gone. When a bird dies in front of her, Ava is sure it is a sign that she is cursed—the last thing she, or her family, needs. But if a curse has been placed on her, there must a way to break it. So Ava makes a deal: if she can take care of two orphaned bird eggs, she will have paid off her debt, and her family will be alright. With everyone she loves on the line, Ava will do everything in her power to make sure that her mom, her twin baby brothers, her birds, and even Cody all come through the summer safely

When two ex-best friends get lost in the wilderness, can they outrun a storm and find their way back to…

safety? From Meika Hashimoto, author of The Trail , comes an action-packed adventure about rekindling friendship and doing what it takes to survive. Amos and Marlo have always been best friends. From hiking trips to backyard camp-outs, from playing soccer at the park to sitting together at lunch, they did everything together — until this past school year, when it all fell apart. Out of nowhere, Amos stopped talking to Marlo, and she has no idea why. Embarrassed and angry, Marlo distracts herself by looking forward to an end-of-year canoe trip with her mom. A special wilderness adventure, just the two of them (and their dog). But when they arrive at the trail-head in the Alaska wilderness... there's Amos! Their parents have surprised them with a trip together. Things couldn't be any worse. During the trip, Marlo and Amos do their best to avoid each other at all costs... until their parents pair them in a canoe together. When they start arguing, Amos and Marlo don't notice that the grownups' canoe has disappeared. They've taken a wrong turn — and they're heading straight for a waterfall. Lost in the wilderness, and with a storm brewing, can these two ex-best friends stop fighting long enough to find their way back to safety? Off the Map contains Meika's signature mix of outdoor adventure and loads of heart. It's about first crushes, friendship breakups, and learning to trust again. A perfect read for fans of Hatchet or Dan Gemeinhart

Kwesi likes spending time at the lake with his friends, except there's one tiny problem... he can't swim. But guess…

what? Neither can Nana Ruby! When she comes over for dinner one night, she tells Kwesi about when she moved from Ghana to the US and the history of segregation that kept her out of pools and caused a fear of water among many Black people. 'So I will never learn how to swim?' Kwesi asks. But Nana Ruby tells him they will call on the strength of Mami Wata, the sea creature of West African legend, to conquer their fears together. This touching intergenerational story teaches the importance of naming, acknowledging and facing fears

Key Selling Points Fourteen-year-old Charlotte is determined to use her new drone to prove the existence of an elusive lake…

monster. This story explores family dynamics and intergenerational relationships, as well as themes of conservation, responsibility and doing the right thing. The appeal of mythical creatures like the Loch Ness Monster is universal, and drone pilots are increasingly using drones to search for lake monsters. The author’s husband is a drone pilot, and consumer-level drones are becoming increasingly popular. This fictional town and community of Dorothy Lake was inspired by the Shuswap-Okanagan region of British Columbia, which is where the author grew up and is also the home of two lake monsters: the famous Ogopogo of Okanagan Lake and Shuswaggi of Shuswap Lake. Enhanced features (dyslexia-friendly font, cream paper, larger trim size) to increase reading accessibility for dyslexic and other striving readers.
