This vision echoes Brazil’s call for a mutirão – a collective, bottom-up mobilization being championed at COP30 in Belém. Drawing on decades of fieldwork and critical analysis, Michael Brown reveals why prevailing strategies – from REDD+ to other NbS – remain implausible and risk compounding poverty and marginalization in the Global South. Instead, Brown proposes a paradigm shift, elevating a governance innovation: Negotiated Governance Platforms (NGPs) that bring IPLCs, governments, and climate financiers together as mutually interested partners. Through a rich set of case studies that include successes and failures, he demonstrates how social license, tenure security, and robust capacity building are essential for achieving climate action that will be sustainable because it works for key actors at multiple levels.Rejecting technocratic quick fixes, this book offers a pragmatic blueprint for moving beyond rhetoric to operational reality, even in contexts characterized by corruption or weak governance. Originating in the first decade of the 21st century from currents within cultural anthropology, Material Religion challenges a foundational assumption of much modern Western thought: that matter and spirit — materiality and religion — are fundamentally opposed. Rather than conceiving religion primarily as a system of ideas, doctrines, and beliefs, this framework accords equal significance to behaviours, practices, and objects. It reorients the study of religion towards the physical world, while simultaneously highlighting the capacity of tangible environments to mediate between humans and extraordinary powers.This volume introduces the insights of Material Religion to the field of Byzantine Studies. It presents Material Religion as a new theoretical lens to Byzantinists, who have long explored religious life through behaviours, practices, and material culture, and who have long recognized their significance. A series of case studies — encompassing individual sites, urban spaces, landscape features, and categories of objects — illustrates the relevance and analytical power of the framework across the full span of byzantine material culture, from Late Antiquity to the Fall of Constantinople, including instances of cultural exchange within and beyond the Empire’s heartland.Material Religion in Byzantium and Beyond will appeal to a broad audience, from students of Byzantium to established scholars who may be unfamiliar with the Material Religion framework.

analytical and practical benefits that can be gained from an experience-based approach to defining quality.Sociology and related social sciences have rarely explored the quality of spaces, despite qualities being social products. This has led to a clear research gap in understanding spatial quality within social theory. Addressing this gap, this book examines public space quality through a cultural-spatial lens, accounting for the complexity of polycontexturalization, which implies the increasing entanglement of social actions in multiple contexts and spatialities, as well as the materiality of spatial arrangements. Moreover, it introduces the sociologically useful distinction between Erfahrung (reflective experience) and Erlebnis (lived experience) into the analysis of spatial quality. The book’s concept is based on the idea that social experience comprises multiple logics. It is shown that the quality of public space is driven by three distinct logics: The logic of expression, evident in individuals’ drive for social integration; the logic of strategy, viewing public space as a competitive arena; and finally, the logic of subjectivation, which examines how spaces shape subjectivities and are subject to refiguration.The book targets both researchers and students in sociology, anthropology, political science, architecture, and urban planning. It also serves as a practical toolbox for professionals in architecture and planning focused on creating more socially acceptable public spaces.

Logistik und Mathematik-Grundlagen dargestellt und diese konkreten Logistik-Prozesse dann in einem Python-Prototyp zur Lagerverwaltung umgesetzt. Dabei nehmen die Mathematik und die Implementierung in Python besondere Stellenwerte ein. Bei der Wareneingangskontrolle wird mit dem ersten Logistik-Prozess gestartet. Dabei werden Paletten nach dem Entladen aus LKWs auf die automatische Fördertechnik verbracht und automatisch per Lasertechnik auf Fehler analysiert. Die Python-Anwendung umfasst u.a.: Ankündigung der Lieferung, erste Kontrolle vor der Fördertechnik, automatische Kontrolle auf der Fördertechnik, Ausschleusen zur Nachbearbeitung, Retoure zum Lieferanten. Vertiefend wird die Einlagerung von Kühlgut sowie die Dispositionsplanung für Warenauslieferungen betrachtet. Zudem werden verschiedene Sortieralgorithmen vorgestellt. Die dargestellte Mathematik ermöglicht zugehörige Rechnungen auszuführen und beinhaltet hierfür z.B. rationale und reelle Zahlen, grundlegende Eigenschaften von Reihen und Folgen nebst Grenzwertüberlegungen, Primzahlen, Einheiten, Rundungsrechnungen (Paletten sind nicht teilbar) sowie Prozentrechnungen zu Auswertungszwecken von Ein- und Auslieferungen sowie zur Planung von Touren.

Bildung möglich war und ist. Teilhabe und Bildung werden dabei als Dimensionen eines Wechselverhältnis von Subjekt und Gesellschaft begriffen. Die Thematisierung von Bildungsteilhabe wird deshalb nicht nur im Blick auf das institutionalisierte Bildungssystem untersucht, sondern für die Gesamtheit der historisch gewachsenen Formen und Praxen der Bildungsteilhabe sowie für die Möglichkeiten ihrer Gestaltung durch die Subjekte. Mit diesem analytischen Zugang kann die Bildungssituation von Sinti und Roma als ein historisch gewachsenes Ausschlussverhältnis basierend auf tradierten Zuschreibungen entschlüsselt werden, argumentativ gestützt und fortlaufend aktualisiert durch akademisch legitimiertes Wissen. Ausgehend von diesen historischen Wissensbeständen, aber kontinuierlich auch von den Selbstzeugnissen der betroffenen Subjekte aus, wird die dominierende Sichtweise auf die Bildungssituation von Sinti und Roma dekonstruiert und aufgezeigt, wie ihre Bildungsteilhabe durch Kulturalisierung, Ethnisierung und Rassifizierung formiert und kanalisiert wird. Im Ergebnis werden so gesellschaftliche (Unrechts-)Verhältnisse unsichtbar gemacht und der kritischen Analyse und Veränderung entzogen. Mit dieser Sichtweise entfalten die Analysen ein Bild von Bildungsteilhabe als Praxis struktureller und individueller Benachteiligung, fortdauernder Diskriminierung und wirksamer Barrieren, die gleichzeitig von eminenter Wirksamkeit für die Welt- und Selbstverhältnisse der Subjekte sind. Der lebensgeschichtliche Zugang macht deshalb auch die Ambivalenzen von Bildung in ihrer historisch-kulturellen Bedeutung für die Subjekte greifbar: sie erfahren Bildung als Risikolage und Herausforderung, als Entwicklung von Resilienz und lebensgeschichtliche Chance zugleich.

Adopting the unfair distribution of renewable energy benefits in the international community as a test case, the book contributes to existing energy justice scholarship by highlighting the significant contribution of non-Western philosophies in addressing renewable energy injustices. a major public health concern due to its &“high and rising prevalence.&” Intermittent claudication (IC) is the most common symptomatic manifestation of PAD, causing significant disability and reductions in health-related quality of life. While, at the global level, there is concern for gross under-treatment of PAD, here in the US, there has been growing concern for over-treatment of IC. It is clear that IC is a topic that warrants a dedicated, thorough, evidence-based resource that can help vascular specialists gain a comprehensive understanding of IC and how to best approach and engage patients in their care. This book reviews the current literature and clinical practices related to a patient-centered approach to claudication, from the anatomy, physiology and epidemiology related to IC to diagnosis, risk factors and management techniques, including pharmacology, exercise therapy, and open and endovascular revascularization. There are sections dedicated to outcome disparities, the psychological impact of IC, patient preference science and cost effectiveness. There is also a patient-facing brochure and educational poster that can be accessed and downloaded freely. The content is geared toward a range of providers, from practicing vascular specialists and primary care providers to those in vascular training programs. Future directions for treatment and research, as well as an assessment of unmet needs, round out the presentation.
