Direct to Player

Overview

Direct to Player is a quick and convenient way to receive DAISY audio books without waiting for the mail or using a computer to download and transfer files. If you or someone in your residence has an internet connection, we can send the books directly to your DAISY player or mobile device.

Benefits include:

  • No more trips to the mailbox to receive and return CDs.
  • No files to transfer; download straight to your device.
  • Receive new books more often.
Direct to Player

What do I need to use Direct to Player?

  • A CELA account. If you are not already registered, contact your CELA member library or register online.
  • An internet connection. You or someone in your residence needs to have an Internet connection, and for most players and devices, it needs to be a wireless internet connection. If you have a high speed internet connection that is slower than usual, it should still work. You do not need to have a computer.
  • A compatible device. These devices work with Direct to Player:

Victor Reader Stream
Victor Reader Stream, New Generation and Victor Reader Trek

Victor Reader Straus 4M
Victor Reader Stratus 4M and 12M

iPhone
iOS or Android device
with the EasyReader app

For more information about how these players can play books from CELA, visit Compatible devices and software.

Several vendors offer DAISY players, including:

    • Humanware (Stratus 4 or 12, Stream and Trek) at 1-888-723-7273
    • Shop CNIB at 1-866-659-1843

    Setting up your device

    Hand-held DAISY player

If you have a hand-held DAISY player or Victor Stream: contact CELA Contact Centre or call 1-855-655-2273 for setup instructions.

    Smart phone or tablet

If you have an iPhone, iPad or Android device:

    1. Download the Dolphin EasyReader app from the App store or Google Play.
    2. To use the app, first create a Dolphin account using your email address.
    3. Sign in to EasyReader using the email address you used to set up your Dolphin account.
After successfully signing in to the EasyReader app, the My Books page will appear.
Because you have not yet logged into CELA with the EasyReader app, a button will appear that says No books in your library.
    Smartphone and tablet
    1. Select the button that says No books in your library.
    2. The app opens a menu to Manage libraries.
    3. Select CELA Library from the list of libraries. This will take you to a login screen for CELA.
    4. At the CELA login screen, enter your six-digit CELA account number or user name. (Note: adding CELA_ is not required for version 1.3 of EasyReader and later).
    5. Enter the same password you use to log into your CELA account on the CELA website. Please note this password may be different than the password you selected for the EasyReader app.
    6. You have successfully signed in to CELA with EasyReader. Now you can visit celalibrary.ca and download books in the DAISY Direct to Player format. Any DAISY Direct to Player books you download will appear in EasyReader under CELA Library.

If you would like to have books selected for you automatically according to your reading preferences, or if you wish to receive books you place on your holds list, contact the CELA Contact Centre.

For complete instructions on using EasyReader, see our page on using EasyReader.

    Desktop DAISY player

There are two steps to take before you can start using Direct to Player service: your player must be configured so that it connects to your local internet connection and you’ll need Direct to Player service added to your library account.

    To get started:

    • Complete the Direct to Player configuration form and we will contact you to set up your player.

Alternately, you can contact CELA's Contact Centre and ask to get set up for Direct to Player service.

    Troubleshooting tips

If you are experiencing a problem with downloading books, please contact the CELA Contact Centre at 1-855-655-2273 or by email at: help@celalibrary.ca

If your DAISY player is malfunctioning, you will need to contact the vendor for technical support.
