Summary
The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s is the backdrop for this novel about three sisters. Miriam, the oldest, is a nurse and is deeply committed to the Marcus Garvey movement. Louise, the youngest, who is so light-skinned she can "pass,"… becomes a dancer at the Cotton Club. Velma is a Barnard student and an aspiring writer, who becomes part of the New York literary world.
