By Marcel Van Oijen. 2020
This book describes how Bayesian methods work. Its primary aim is to demystify them, and to show readers: Bayesian thinking…
isn’t difficult and can be used in virtually every kind of research. In addition to revealing the underlying simplicity of statistical methods, the book explains how to parameterise and compare models while accounting for uncertainties in data, model parameters and model structures. How exactly should data be used in modelling? The literature offers a bewildering variety of techniques and approaches (Bayesian calibration, data assimilation, Kalman filtering, model-data fusion, etc). This book provides a short and easy guide to all of these and more. It was written from a unifying Bayesian perspective, which reveals how the multitude of techniques and approaches are in fact all related to one another. Basic notions from probability theory are introduced. Executable code examples are included to enhance the book’s practical use for scientific modellers, and all code is available online as well.Brain Tumors (Neuromethods #158)
By Giorgio Seano. 2021
This volume explores the latest models and techniques used to study brain tumor biology. Chapters in this book are organized…
into four sections: in vivo models, ex vivo models, treatments in mice, and clinical imaging. Some of the topics covered in this book are in vivo preclinical models of lower-grade gliomas, medulloblastoma, and brain metastases; ex vivo methods for glioblastoma patient-derived cell lines and organotypic brain cultures for metastasis; in vivo treatments of preclinical models that assess neurological function, dynamic immunotherapy, and neurological impacts of brain irradiation; and clinical imaging and modeling, such as biomechanics and vascular perfusion. In the Neuromethods series style, chapters include the kind of detail and key advice from the specialists needed to get successful results in your laboratory. Cutting-edge and practical, Brain Tumors is a valuable resource that will help readers understand the heterogeneity of the techniques used to study the complexity of brain tumors.Faszientherapie mit dem KLINEA-Konzept: Eine gelenkschonende Methode für Therapeut und Patient

By Ronny Vallejos, Felipe Osorio, Moreno Bevilacqua. 2020
This book offers essential, systematic information on the assessment of the spatial association between two processes from a statistical standpoint.…
Divided into eight chapters, the book begins with preliminary concepts, mainly concerning spatial statistics. The following seven chapters focus on the methodologies needed to assess the correlation between two or more processes; from theory introduced 35 years ago, to techniques that have only recently been published. Furthermore, each chapter contains a section on R computations to explore how the methodology works with real data. References and a list of exercises are included at the end of each chapter. The assessment of the correlation between two spatial processes has been tackled from several different perspectives in a variety of applications fields. In particular, the problem of testing for the existence of spatial association between two georeferenced variables is relevant for posterior modeling and inference. One evident application in this context is the quantification of the spatial correlation between two images (processes defined on a rectangular grid in a two-dimensional space). From a statistical perspective, this problem can be handled via hypothesis testing, or by using extensions of the correlation coefficient. In an image-processing framework, these extensions can also be used to define similarity indices between images. This book presents an up-to-date and comprehensive review of female contraception, offering an extensive overview of contraception types, including oral, injectable,…
emergency, and various cervical barrier contraceptives. It also discusses behavioral and sterilization methods of contraception as well as the clinical effectiveness, advantages, disadvantages, side effects, and mechanisms of action of each method. Now in its fully revised and expanded third edition, this text includes seven new chapters that address specific clinical issues that healthcare providers face daily. These issues include patients with medical problems, perimenopausal women, the adolescent population, post-pregnancy patients, patients with bleeding problems, fibroids or hyperplasia, obese patients and patients with acne or hirutism. There is also a new chapter dedicated to contraceptive methods that are currently in development. Each chapter reviews the correct use of the individual method, the most appropriate candidates, timing of initiation, red flag contraindications, risks and benefits, method of action, handling side effects, non-contraceptive benefits, switching methods and the CDC Medical Eligibility for the method. Importantly however, there is a new emphasis placed on standardized evidence-based practice recommendations incorporating the most recent US Selected Practice Recommendations and rationale as published by the US CDC. Written by experts in the field, The Handbook of Contraception, Third Edition, is a valuable resource for obstetricians, gynecologists, reproductive medicine specialists and primary care physicians.Surgery of the Knee
