Nuclear Oncology
By Duccio Volterrani, H. William Strauss, Giuliano Mariani, Steven M. Larson. 2017
This book discusses the role of nuclear medicine in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of patients with specific cancers. It…
presents the incidence, pathophysiologic and clinical aspects of the disease, the use of nuclear imaging in diagnosis, staging requirements, management of specific tumors, and surveillance after primary treatment of cancers. It addresses the various diagnostic/therapeutic options that are currently available or are most likely to become available in the near future according to a prioritized approach, thereby keeping to a minimum the number of diagnostic imaging procedures the patient is expected to undergo. Topics include basic science, clinical applications, radionuclide therapy, radioguided surgery, heart disease in the cancer patient, and adverse effects of cancer therapy. Each clinical chapter discusses the radionuclide procedures within an integrated framework, thereby identifying the information required for effective treatment of specific tumors. The book concludes with a series of cases that define and expand the didactic material in the clinical application chapters. Thoroughly updated and revised, the second edition incorporates advances in imaging and therapy and features the current staging guidelines of the American Joint Committee on Cancer. With contributions from a group of internationally distinguished practitione rs, Nuclear Oncology: From Pathophysiology to Clinical Applications, Second Edition, is a valuable reference for nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, medical and surgical oncologists, and other clinicians involved in the care and management of cancer patients.Geriatric Anesthesiology
By Sheila Barnett, J G Reves, Julie Mcswain, G Rooke. 2018
Surgical and anesthetic techniques have evolved to allow a growing number of older adults to undergo surgery, and current estimates…
are that 50% of Americans over the age of 65 years old will have an operation. However, as the knowledge regarding perioperative care of the elderly surgical patient grows, so do the questions. In this edition, each chapter includes a section entitled "Gaps in Our Knowledge," meant to highlight areas in which research is needed, as well as hopefully inspire readers to begin solving some of these questions themselves. Building upon the strong foundation of the first two editions, Geriatric Anesthesiology, 3rd edition also assembles the most up-to-date information in geriatric anesthesia and provides anesthesiologists with important new developments. Topics covered include several new chapters that reflect the evolution of multidisciplinary geriatric care throughout the perioperative continuum, as well as the growing body of literature related to prehabilitation. In addition, discussion of the surgeon's perspective and geriatrician's perspective on surgery in the geriatric population is covered, as well as the systematic physiologic changes associated with aging and the pharmacologic considerations for the geriatric patient undergoing procedures. Finally, the last section discusses postoperative care specific to the geriatric population, including acute pain management, ICU management, recent evidence and up-to-date practice regarding delirium and postoperative cognitive dysfunction, and palliative care.Geriatric Anesthesiology

By Prateek Sharma, Shobna Bhatia, Khean Goh. 2017
GERD is the most common gastrointestinal disease in the world affecting over 10-20% of the adult population. GERD is often…
perceived as a Western disease and very little literature available about this disease in the Asian population. With growing obesity and westernization in Asia, the prevalence of GERD is rapidly increasing. With growing morbidity and health care cost there is a significant need for understanding the disease from the Asian perspective. This book would fill the gap in the knowledge on GERD among Asians and will highlight the difference in terms of epidemiology, diagnosis and management of GERD from the Western perspective. The novel imaging, diagnostic modalities and treatment aspects will be essentially highlighted in this book. It also deals about the pathogenesis and risk factors of Asians for the development of GERD which have not been explored before. Another important difference is that the book would be dealing with symptom perception and cultural factors affecting the diagnosis and management of this common disorder. Finally, the surgical outcomes of GERD among Asians will be discussed. Information on these topics is limited. The Rise of Acid Reflux in Asia

By Lynette Monteiro, Jane Compson, Frank Musten. 2017
This book focuses on the role of ethics in the application of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) and mindfulness-based programs (MBPs) in…
clinical practice. The book offers an overview of the role of ethics in the cultivation of mindfulness and explores the way in which ethics have been embedded in the curriculum of MBIs and MBPs. Chapters review current training processes and examines the issues around incorporating ethics into MBIs and MBPs detailed for non-secular audiences, including training clinicians, developing program curriculum, and dealing with specific client populations. Chapters also examine new, second-generation MBIs and MBPs, the result of the call for more advanced mindfulness-based practices . The book addresses the increasing popularity of mindfulness in therapeutic interventions, but stresses that it remains a new treatment methodology and in order to achieve best practice status, mindfulness interventions must offer a clear understanding of their potential and limits. Topics featured in this book include: * Transparency in mindfulness programs. * Teaching ethics and mindfulness to physicians and healthcare professionals. * The Mindfulness-Based Symptom Management (MBSM) program and its use in treating mental health issues. * The efficacy and ethical considerations of teaching mindfulness in businesses. * The Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Program. * The application of mindfulness in the military context. Practitioner's Guide to Mindfulness and Ethics is a must-have resource for clinical psychologists and affiliated medical, and mental health professionals, including specialists in complementary and alternative medicine and psychiatry. Social workers considering or already using mindfulness in practice will also find it highly useful.Precision Molecular Pathology of Uterine Cancer

By Denise Turner. 2017
This book combines autobiography and innovative narrative research to create an original psychosocial perspective on the often taboo subject of…
sudden, unexpected child death. Beginning with the author's own experience, the book investigates manifold aspects of sudden, unexpected child death, including the professional rapid response; contemporary cultural reactions to death; theories of grieving; child death inquiries and popular media reporting. At the heart of the book are intimate personal stories, drawn from unprecedented psychosocial research on this topic, which combine to create a unique record of parent's experiences following the sudden and unexpected death of a child. Additionally, the book offers original guidance on the Biographic Narrative Interpretive methodology, which extends knowledge of group data analysis. By A Murray Fallis. 1971
Increasing wisdom and ingenuity are required if we are to master our environment and cope with the myriad of organisms…
that affect our existence. Not the least of these organisms are the parasites and pathogens which can be found in all animals. The ecological implications of parasitism are obvious, and the interrelationships among different organisms within the same host are fascinating, but more knowledge and understanding are needed. The symposium are held to stimulate discussion of the significance of ecological problems presented by parasites and to develop means of attacking some of these problems. The diversity of parasitism from protozoa to anthropods was emphasized and the speakers and topics were selected to interest those in various biological disciplines and professions. Organized by the Department of Parasitology in the School of Hygiene of the University of Toronto, and held at Toronto in February 1970, the symposium was an unqualified success. The enthusiastic interest, indicated by the attendance of over three hundred people from seven countries, and numerous requests for copies of the proceedings led to the publication in this volume of the twelve papers presented at the symposium. The opening remarks of the leader of the discussion which follow each paper have been included and a complete bibliography is provided for each topic. The contributors are leading specialists in their fields; their papers present the results of the most recent research and assemble and review the scattered literature on each topic. The text is illustrated throughout with diagrams and photographs. Parasitism and associated phenomena are excellent examples of problems requiring the interdisciplinary approach taken by the symposium. The results of such an approach are useful in a wide variety of disciplines: microbiology, invertebrate zoology, entomology, and tropical medicine, as well as parasitology.
