By Guillermo Gonzalez. 2022
This textbook provides a solid foundation into many approaches that are used in the analysis of advanced electromagnetic wave propagation…
problems. The techniques discussed are essential to obtain closed-form solutions or asymptotic solutions and meet an existing need for instructors and students in electromagnetic theory. The book covers various advanced mathematical methods used in the evaluation of the electromagnetic fields in rectangular, cylindrical and spherical geometries. The mathematics of special functions (i.e., Bessel, Hankel, Airy, Legendre, Error, etc.) are covered in depth, including appropriate Appendices. The author takes particular care to provide detailed explanations of auxiliary potentials, Hertz’s vectors, Debye potentials, as well as the use of Green functions, the Watson transformation and the method of steepest descent in the solution of electromagnetic problems. Overall, Advanced Electromagnetic Wave Propagation Methods is a good source for the many skills required in obtaining closed form and asymptotic solution, which in many instances cannot be obtained using computer codes of Maxwell’s equations. Thus, it provides an excellent training for preparing graduate students in their research work. This book is intended for a graduate course in electromagnetic theory for students in electrical engineering. Students in physics and professionals will also find it appropriate and useful. Provides a comprehensive and unified treatment of radiation and propagation problems Presents a detailed explanation in the use of Green functions, the Watson transformation and the method of steepest descent as they apply to electromagnetic problems Demonstrates various advanced mathematical techniques used in the evaluation of the electromagnetic fields Details how to formulate and obtain a closed-form solution or an asymptotic solution Includes appendices for Bessel, Legendre, Airy and Error functionsAmericans from Africa: Slavery and its Aftermath

barrios of Puerto Rico to Brooklyn, and eventually on to Harvard In a childhood full of tropical beauty and domestic strife, poverty and tenderness, Esmeralda Santiago learned the proper way to eat a guava, the sound of tree frogs, the taste of morcilla, and the formula for ushering a dead baby's soul to heaven. for thinking through a diverse set of issues relating to decolonial aesthetics, post-nationalism and gender, non-Western ecologies, trauma and memory, diasporic experiences of space, biopolitics, feminist historiography and decolonial temporalities.Positing that these filmmaker-artists radically counter dominant media images of Palestinians, deessentializing Palestinian identity while opening up history and the present to new potentialities and ways of imagining Palestinian futures, Decolonial Imaginaries in Palestinian Experimental Film and Video argues that Palestinian experience is urgently relevant to all of us. As the works address issues of food availability and land use, environmental collapse and forced displacement, Hole explores how such films generate hope, imagine impossible possibilities and offer inspiration and wisdom when it comes to losing and rebuilding.Addressing a fundamentally transnational and understudied area, this book will resonate with readers working in the areas of film and media studies, Palestinian cultural studies, historiography, Middle East studies and experimental film.Crossing Lines: Cross-Ethnic Coalitions in India and Prospects for Minority Representation
By Madhavi Devasher. 2024
This book explains why, how, and where ethnic political parties unexpectedly seek votes from non-coethnics and when voters support non-coethnic…
parties. It draws on case studies of three Indian states (Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan) and of Indian national elections to demonstrate how differences in party systems impact political party strategies and voter choices. It shows that multipolar party systems encourage political parties to provide physical security, representation, and economic benefits for minorities, especially Muslims, in India and as a result, foster cross-ethnic links between parties and voters. However, as political arenas become dominated by two or even one party, advocacy for the interests of marginalized groups declines, weakening cross-ethnic linkages. The book thus explains why representation and advocacy for Muslims in Uttar Pradesh and at the national level has alternated dramatically in the 21st century. Based on original fieldwork and supplemented by existing surveys and secondary sources from the 1990s to the present day, the book addresses critical themes such as inclusion and substantive representation in a democracy, caste and minority politics, ethnic violence, and inter-ethnic linkages between politicians and voters. Demonstrating why political parties support and protect the interests of marginalized ethnic groups in certain political conditions but not others, the volume also speaks to larger questions of the health of multiethnic democracies and democratic backsliding around the world.Measure of Noncompactness, Fixed Point Theorems, and Applications

point theory, differential equations, functional equations, integral and integrodifferential equations, optimization, and others. This edited volume presents the recent developments in the theory of the measure of noncompactness and its applications in pure and applied mathematics. It discusses important topics such as measures of noncompactness in the space of regulated functions, application in nonlinear infinite systems of fractional differential equations, and coupled fixed point theorem.Key Highlights: Explains numerical solution of functional integral equation through coupled fixed point theorem, measure of noncompactness and iterative algorithm Showcases applications of the measure of noncompactness and Petryshyn’s fixed point theorem functional integral equations in Banach algebra Explores the existence of solutions of the implicit fractional integral equation via extension of the Darbo’s fixed point theorem Discusses best proximity point results using measure of noncompactness and its applications Includes solvability of some fractional differential equations in the holder space and their numerical treatment via measures of noncompactness This reference work is for scholars and academic researchers in pure and applied mathematics.Re-envisioning Psychology: Debating Paradigmatic Foundations
By Parul Bansal. 2024
This book studies the ideological nature of mainstream scientific psychology. It raises critical questions about the dominant forms of psychological…
theorization and praxis, based on their validity, social relevance and power privileges. Re-envisioning Psychology critically interrogates scientific images of the mind, individual, gender, development, society and culture that mainstream psychology promotes. The issues taken up in this book revolve around the pivotal concerns of psychology’s scientific basis, its dominant quantitative research methodology, the construction of ‘individual’ as the unit of analysis, the conceptualization of ‘social’, ‘cultural’ and ‘gender’ in relation to individualism, and the understanding of abnormality as shaped by the discourses of medical science and capitalism.Comprehensive and topical, the book will be useful to students, researchers, and teachers of psychology, applied psychology, social work, gender and women studies, and sociology. It will also be of interest to professional counsellors and psychotherapists.LO: Screendance Remixed (ISSN)
By Alanna Thain, Priscilla Guy. 2024
This edited collection assembles international perspectives from artists, academics, and curators in the field to bring the insights of screendance…
theory and practice back into conversations with critical methods, at the intersections of popular culture, low-tech media practices, dance, and movement studies, and the minoritarian perspectives of feminism, queer theory, critical race studies and more. This book represents new vectors in screendance studies, featuring contributions by both artists and theoreticians, some of the most established voices in the field as well as the next generation of emerging scholars, artists, and curators. It builds on the foundational cartographies of screendance studies that attempted to sketch out what was particular to this practice. Sampling and reworking established forms of inquiry, artistic practice and spectatorial habits, and suspending and reorienting gestures into minoritarian forms, these conversations consider the affordances of screendance for reimaging the relations of bodies, technologies, and media today. This collection will be of great interest to students and scholars in dance studies, performance studies, cinema and media studies, feminist studies, and cultural studies.
