presence of the penetrating keratoplasty technique. The development of anterior lamellar graft (DALK), and posterior lamellar graft (DSAEK), makes an important change in the approach to lamellar surgery. Later on, the appearance of DMEK and superficial lamellar keratectomy broadened the spectrum. Today, intralamellar surgery has evolved with a number of techniques that involve stromal enhancement with biologically active or acellular corneal laminas from donors, customized lenticles from SMILE surgeries or customized by corneal topography, and more recently, corneal regeneration of the stroma by advanced techniques using mesenchymal stem cells. This book offers a comprehensive overview of modern keratoplasty techniques, the technology, surgical skills, and outcomes. It highlights the practical uses of keratoplasty for all cornea surgeons and anterior segment surgeons. The book is divided into sections, each covering a specific type of keratoplasty, including chapters on innovations within each surgery type. base and the up-to-date advancement in different treatment modalities. Management of diseases at the orbital apex and periorbital skull base has always been a challenge. Multiple specialties are involved, including skull base neurosurgeon, oculoplastic ophthalmologist, otorhinolaryngologist, head and neck surgeon, oncologist, neurologist and radiologist. However, frequently it results into a “no-man’s land”, as no single specialty is entirely familiar with this complex and overlapping anatomical territory. Cranial nerves, carotid artery, and cavernous sinus are just one of the few examples of important anatomical structures that pass through. However, this has often been managed by one specialty especially during surgical planning and operation, resulting in biases in choices of approach and surgical strategies. We believe that this interesting yet complex region deserves special attention with a well-orchestrated multi-disciplinary effort. Traditionally, surgical treatments for diseases in this region involve different types of craniotomy and orbitotomy. In this book, it covers the advancement in imaging modalities, medical therapies, operative instruments, radiation therapy namely stereotactic radiosurgery or radiotherapy, management of diseases in orbital apex and periorbital skull base evolve and improve with time. Minimally invasive surgery in terms of mastering neuro-endoscopy contributes to the intervention advancement.Refraction and Retinoscopy: How to Pass the Refraction Certificate (MasterPass)

By Vladimir Thaller. 2023
This book is a practical guide for anyone who performs eyelid surgery, whatever their specialty, and is particularly relevant for…
ophthalmologists in training and non-oculoplastic surgeons who may venture into this field. The step-wise text is supported by numerous original illustrations. It emphasises a logical, minimalist approach to lid surgery and challenges some popular practices. The novel techniques unique to this volume may be of interest to experienced oculoplastic surgeons. They include emphasis on the superiority of Meibomian orifice line lid traction suture placement over using the grey line. This makes bolsterless suture tarsorrhaphy a viable and better alternative to temporary surgical tarsorrhaphy. Maximal use of direct closure and directed laissez-faire encourages tissue expansion in eyelid reconstruction, aided greatly by the placement of a magic suture. The seductively simple medial canthal thermoplasty corrects medial lid laxity without dissection. The control of active thyroid eye disease with orbital depot steroid injections, the importance of full orbital volume replacement after eye removal and the superiority of modified Bick lid margin resection over the lateral tarsal strip for lid tightening are further departures from traditional practice.Neuroophthalmologie: Differentialdiagnostik in 100 Fallbeispielen

Nutritional and Environmental Influences on the Eye (Modern Nutrition Ser.)

anaesthesia facility, are usually managed only in tertiary eye care centers. Being a difficult entity for comprehensive evaluation, many ophthalmologists lack adequate experience in diagnosing and managing this specialized group of patients. Pediatric glaucoma are an important cause of ocular morbidity and visual impairment, which if diagnosed in time, pays dividend in terms of improved quality of life, visual outcome and less disability associated life years in this young age group. Early diagnosis, prompt and effective treatment and rehabilitation play an important role in final visual outcomes. The book covers all important aspects of pediatric examination beginning from clinical examination, diagnostic investigations and treatment protocols. Certain examinations like intraocular pressure measurement, gonioscopy, detailed fundus examination need sedation/ anaesthesia. The video based procedural modules aim to explain standard protocols for performing basic examination in children, such as, under anaesthesia or sedation. It has a case based approach for all types of childhood glaucomas, which helps the residents, glaucoma fellows and practicing ophthalmologists alike to identify different types of childhood glaucomas, plan respective management and refer early, whenever indicated for these conditions. The book will serve as a ready reckoner, an authentic reference book and a teaching tool for practicing glaucoma specialists, general ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents and glaucoma fellows. The editors have extensive experience in dealing with pediatric glaucoma and contributed years of teaching and research in this field. This book primarily consists of images, diagrams, case presentations and illustrative videos wherever required. It illustrates the clinical findings of different pediatric glaucomas and hence acts as a practical teaching tool by providing a plethora of clinical pictures in adjunct to a short case scenario. The Ophthalmic Office Procedures Handbook

therapies available nowadays. The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is a subcomponent of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and dysfunction of one or more subdivisions of the ANS, when accompanying other diseases, is linked to a worse prognosis of the latter. In some circumstances or when severe, dysfunction of ANS itself results in symptoms and disability. A myriad of factors can cause autonomic dysfunction and more than one can concur even in the same patient; due to the expansive nature of the ANS, patients can be affected by a wide range of conditions. Each chapter is characterized by a similar structure and is devoted to a different dysfunction. For each pathology, the book offers the essential information on mechanisms of action, treatments and outcomes. Written by experts in the research of these disorders, the volume addresses primarily Neurologists, but will be a useful tool also for Gastroenterologists, Ophthalmologists, Urologists, Cardiologists and Internal medicine specialists.Ophthalmology: Lecture Notes (Lecture Notes #71)
