Et en 1945, française à nouveau. Tomi a huit ans quand la Seconde Guerre mondiale éclate. Du jour au lendemain, il doit changer de nom, parler allemand, écrire en gothique, faire un dessin raciste pour son premier devoir nazi. Il obéit, il s'adapte. Il devient un caméléon : Français sous son toit, Allemand à l'école, Alsacien avec les copains. Heureux, quoi qu'il arrive. À la maison, sa mère, fantasque, chaleureuse et rusée, veille.
