By Willa Cather. 2013
Willa Sibert Cather (1873-1947) was an eminent American author. She spent her childhood in Red Cloud, Nebraska, the same town…
that has been made famous by her writing. She insisted on attending college, so her family borrowed money so she could enroll at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. While there, she became a regular contributor to the Nebraska State Journal. She then moved to Pittsburgh, where she taught high school English and worked for Home Monthly, and eventually got a job offer from McClure's Magazine in New York City. Later, she became the managing editor in 1908. The latter publication serialized her first novel, Alexander's Bridge (1912), which was heavily influenced by Henry James. For her novels she returned to the prairie for inspiration, and these works became popular and critical successes. She won the Pulitzer Prize in 1923 for One of Ours (1922). Her other works include: O Pioneers (1913), The Song of the Lark (1915), My Antonia (1918) and A Lost Lady (1923).Madagascar: New and Selected Stories

artistic mastery. In these compelling, deftly crafted narratives about fathers and sons, loss and separation, sorrow, comic happenstance, and the vagaries of romantic and familial love, Steven Schwartz offers a resonating testament to the depth and promise of human connection. The President's Table
By Jenny Bond. 2014
In Roosevelt's White House, one woman finds love and friendship in unexpected places. A short story from the author of…
The President's Lunch. Iris McIntosh is many things to many people - advisor to President Roosevelt, friend and confidant to First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, lover to one man, and girlfriend to another. But when the flamboyant Alexander Woollcott comes to stay, Iris begins to question everything that she had previously taken for granted. As she struggles to maintain the façade that splits her heart between two men, an unexpected evening with Aleck shows that they have more in common than Iris knew, and a simple game unravels both the mystery surrounding his past and the truth that she has failed to admit, even to herself. Jenny Bond has worked as a teacher, journalist, copywriter and researcher. Her non-fiction titles have been published in Australia and the USA. Writing about the stories behind great novels led Jenny to write her own first novel, Perfect North (Hachette 2013). Her second novel, The President's Lunch, again incorporates real-life figures with fictional ones, a technique that allows Jenny to imaginatively interpret historical events. While researching the novel, Jenny spent two months in Washington D.C. visiting the places where the Roosevelts lived and worked. She lives with her husband and children in Canberra, Australia's capital. Visit her at Jennybondbooks.comThe Engagement Party

Freeman's captivating new Jazz age novel, EVERGREEN FALLS. Flora Honeychurch-Black awakens on the day of her engagement party excited yet somehow unsettled. Throughout the day, despite the well-meaning attention of her friend Liberty and the distraction of the household's many preparations for the night's celebration, Flora's unease grows. Her much-loved, erratic brother Sam unwittingly adds to the tension, behaving oddly and drawing mirth from her suave fiance Tony and derision from some of his sophisticated coterie of friends. As the storm clouds gather outside and the engagement party begins, Flora realises that something is amiss. Where is Sam? What secret is he hiding? The answers may be more than Flora - and her new relationships and loyalties - can bear. The Crackler

By Martha Ronk. 2008
Glass Grapes and Other Stories is the first full-length collection of short stories by distinguished poet and fiction writer Martha…
Ronk. Ronk's work has garnered critical accolades and numerous awards, including, most recently, a 2005 PEN USA Award in poetry, a 2007 NEA Fellowship, and a 2007 National Poetry Series Award. Glass Grapes is a collection of short, experimental stories, usually dominated by an object imbued with fetishistic qualities by an obsessive, self-involved narrator. The language of these stories is repetitive, provocative, imagistic, occasionally comic, and unnerving. Ronk's fiction moves with the same grace, beauty, and attention to language as her most accomplished poetry.Sex and the Kitchen

By Emanuele Caccia. 2016
