Communitarian anarchism is a generic form of socialism that denies the need for a state or any other authority over…
the individual from above, and which requires absolute belief that the individual cannot exist outside of a community of others. This book suggests that the communitarian anarchists of the nineteenth century developed and articulated a distinct tradition of economic thought. The period of this study begins with the first major writing of the French communitarian anarchist, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, in 1840 and ends with the temporary burial of anarchist theorizing at the beginning of the First World War in 1914. However, he tradition of communitarian anarchist economic thought did not end in 1914. The economic thought explored in this book provides a fresh perception of the fragmentation evident in many societies today, especially where there is a substantial "informal economy."Current Perspectives on Asian Women in Leadership: A Cross-Cultural Analysis (Current Perspectives on Asian Women in Leadership)

By George Friedman, Phan Phan. 2005
At first glance this might appear to be a book on mathematics but it is really intended for…
the practical engineer who wishes to gain greater control of the multidimensional mathematical models which are increasingly an important part of his environment Another feature of the book is that it attempts to balance left- and right-brain perceptions the author has noticed that many graph theory books are disturbingly light on actual topological pictures of their material One thing that this book is not is a depiction of the Theory of Constraints as defined by Eliyahu Goldratt in the 1980 s Constraint Theory was originally defined by the author in his PhD dissertation in 1967 and subsequent papers written over the following decade It strives to employ more of a mathematical foundation to complexity than the Theory of Constraints This merely attempts to differentiate this book from Goldratt s work not demean his efforts After all the main body of work in the field of 1 Systems Engineering is still largely qualitativeDouble Shift: Transforming Work in Postsocialist and Postindustrial Societies (U. former Soviet Union examines the profound changes in industrial systems and work organisation currently affecting both societies. The authors focus on the emergence of new labour market institutions, the evolution of managerial philosophy, changes in workers' values and attitudes toward economic security, economic inequality, and the legitimacy of worker participation in management and ownership. Comparison reveals both striking differences and similarities in the transformation of the two systems in the post-industrial age, and helps demystify some simplistic notions about the workings of market systems.Marketing Financial Services

ground especially for water. Some rather lengthy tomes are and have been available over the years which have been pretty well incomprehensible to the average field man, or indeed, those responsible for the administration of field operations. Most of those books have been written by people with peripheral disciplines to the industry thus haven’t had the field experience to really get hold of the heart of the matter. Drilling for Water - 2 has been written to be understandable to field personnel and in their own terms. Everything in it is based on considerable field experience. Following the publication of Drilling for Water, many accolades were forthcoming such as ...packed with information... ...my bible... ...most welcome... ...a breath of fresh air... ...couldn’t put it down... etc.Sustainable Development for a Democratic South Africa
By Ken Cole. 1994
After the multi racial elections in April 1994, South Africa has been set on a new course. For a country…
emerging from 45 years of apartheid democracy should prove to be the vital first step on the path to sustainability and equitability. There are sure to be pitfalls along the way but the potential offered by long-awaited equality is enormous, and realising that potential is the key to the country's chances of achieving sustainable development. This book analyses the changes which are needed and which might result from the new political culture. It discusses the policy requirements necessary for sustainable development and looks at how the economy, regional integration, land reform, the law, local government, NGOs, health care and AIDs prevention, education, and the media will all be affected, drawing on the experience of other countries in Africa which have witnessed the transition to black majority rule. Accessible to general readers as well as to specialists, it provides a comprehensive overview of the issues involved, and a basis for understanding what prospects the future holds for South Africa. The State and Industry in South Korea: The Limits of the Authoritarian State

funding is required to build each of these basic services to the levels of developed nations – funding they don’t have. Many African countries rely on assistance from the government and global companies looking to invest or facilitate projects in the region. And for a variety of reasons, many of these projects fail or are inadequate to fulfil the needs of the nation. In order to facilitate their own economic development, African nations need to cultivate efficient project management practices and policies that will help them achieve their goal of sustainability. This book by a multidisciplinary project management consultant, contributes to the body of knowledge that each African country can attain and sustain economic development by suggesting how to eliminate and correct most causes of failures of projects in construction, water treatment, electricity and renewable energy. It suggests that they should also be able to obtain the sustainable harvesting of the benefits of project deliverables which have been planned for in order to implement the various aspects of their economic development. The suggestions in this book will make a difference in project delivery and are comprehensive enough to create a root-and-branch change which will affect the people involved in making decision on projects and their delivery. Thus, project management teams and their managers, organization decision makers, companies looking to invest in the region, and politicians who plan the economy have to understand the causes of unhelpful practices and what needs to be done in order to produce productive and effective delivery of long-term sustainable project. The principal goal of this book is to advise public and private companies, and international organizations conducting projects in Africa on how to prepare themselves, their businesses and enterprises to solve the problems that cause failure of projects and abandonment of project deliverables. The book also recommends the necessity for a commercial enterprise or government entity to prepare and develop its vision, mission, and strategic objects to constitute the basis of a business plan which should be implemented for successful operations. After first identifying various failed and abandoned projects in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa, the author provides an analysis of why these projects failed or were abandoned. By using methodologies of Organizational Project Management (OPM), Project Portfolio Management (PPM) and project management techniques, he suggests a framework for project delivery which could be used as a foundational structure and platform that will address the problem and provide solutions for the achievement of successful and sustainable project delivery in Africa. This book, first published in 1995, analyses both theoretically and empirically the effects of a material injury clause of the…
type found in the Trade Act of 1979 on the behaviour of the dumping or subsidised foreign and import-competing domestic industries. The insight underlying the investigation is that the existence of such a material injury clause in an unfair trade law presents a moral hazard for representatives of the industry because it implies that tariff protection is more likely when the ITC perceives the injury to the US industry to be greater. Therefore, an incentive exists for the US industry to let itself be (or appear to be) injured today in order to benefit from tariff protection in the future. The Southeast Asian Economic Miracle: A Centennial Assessment
By Young Kim. 1995
There is widespread agreement that the world's most successful developing countries in the 1980s were those in Southeast Asia. Following…
in the footsteps of postwar Japan and more recently Korea, the populations of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines have made enormous strides in income, industrial and agricultural production, exports, education, health, nutrition, consumption, and other development indicators. This book brings together political scientists, economists, officials of Asian governments, the United States, and representatives of the multilateral banks to analyze and explain Southeast Asia's extraordinary growth.Chapters and contributors to The Southeast Asian Economic Miracle include: "Recent Developments and Future Prospects of Indonesia" by Anwar Nasution; "The Economic Experience and Prospects of Thailand" by Sukhumbhand Paribatra; "The Development of the Former Indochina States" by Frederick Brown; "Trade and Investment in Southeast Asian Development" by Stephen Parker; and "Managing Renewable Resources in Southeast Asia: The Problem of Deforestation" by Gareth Porter.Among the critical questions that the contributors address are: Is the success of the 1980s and early 1990s a permanent part of the world's economic landscape? How will this region react to the growth of China's vast productive capacity and to the faltering of Japan's economy? What will be the effect of U.S. military disengagement caused by domestic budgetary concerns and the end of the cold war? The Southeast Asian Economic Miracle is an important study of the shifting winds of the political economy of growth in our time—the movement away from a command to a free market environment. It will be an essential resource for political scientists, Asia area scholars, economists, and policymakers.Industries, Firms, and Jobs: Sociological And Economic Approaches (Springer Studies In Work And Industry Ser.)

product markets? The answers, posited by a distinguished group of sociologists and economists, have gained resonance as the field of economic sociology has grown. In this expanded edition, the editors and their economist colleague, Kevin Lang, explore the theoretical interstices and update the references.Sociologists and economists have responded differently to work within the other discipline. For some sociologists, the typical economic assumption of basic actors engaged in rational action is both unrealistic and objectionable. Other sociologists have not always agreed with everything economists do, they have seen ""rational choice"" as a partially true description of human behavior and as a starting point for sociological theorizing. Among economists, the situation is quite different: most have maintained their basic rational choice model while pushing aggressively into substantive areas previously addressed only by sociologists and political scientists.Industries, Firms, and Jobs is a welcome reassertion of an old tradition of interdisciplinary research. That tradition has recently weakened, largely because of an enormous expansion of the domain of neoclassical economics. The expansion has fed on two scientific developments: human capital theory and contract theory. This book is an invaluable resource for all economists, sociologists, labor specialists, and business professionals.Transaction Cost Economics and Beyond: Toward a New Economics of the Firm

Drawing on theories of organizational behaviour as well as economics, he concludes by offering a theory of the firm that allows for both hierarchical and creative decision making.Acid Rain

the US on interest payments to non-resident alien individuals and foreign corporations, that is emblematic of the US quest for foreign capital in the 1980s.
