By Kim Stevenson, Sinéad Ring, Kate Gleeson. 2022
Child Sexual Abuse Reported by Adult Survivors is a wide-ranging and timely critical history and analysis of legal responses to…
‘historical’ or ‘non-recent’ child sexual abuse (NRCSA) in England and Wales, Ireland and Australia, each of which represents an evolving and progressive approach to this important and complex issue. The book examines the emergence of NRCSA as a distinctive social, political and legal phenomenon in each country and explores the legal responses developed to address its unprecedented challenges. Courts and parliaments in each country have reformed existing doctrine and practice and have created new ways of holding state and private actors accountable and new ways of addressing survivors’ injuries. Criminal law, tort law, public inquiries and state reparations have all been to the forefront of these new legal responses, which have transformed law’s engagement with NRCSA survivors and understandings of justice itself. However, despite this undeniable progress, the book identifies ways in which the legal responses developed in each country fail to deliver accountability and recognition to NRCSA survivors and argues that such failures betray the law’s inherent ambivalence to delivering justice for these survivors. Creating new insights into legal responses to this complex contemporary legal, social and political problem, this book will be of great interest to academic lawyers, political scientists and historians, as well as those working on related topics in criminology, sociology, social policy, cultural studies and gender studies.Mindful Drinking: How Cutting Down Can Change Your Life

The Familia Grande: A Memoir

A stunning story about finding the courage to speak out against injustice, even when committed by those closest to us.Camille…
Kouchner&’s childhood was marked by sun-drenched summers in the south of France, where a vibrant cast of family and friends would gather at their Sanary-sur-Mer house. This familia grande, which included much of the country&’s elite, spent memorable days and nights laughing, debating, drinking, and dancing. But a long-held secret poisoned Camille&’s memories. In February 2017, Camille returned to Sanary at forty-one to bury her mother, who died with none of her five children present. Her passing would stir up old emotions, ultimately leading Camille to publicly confront the truth. The Familia Grande poignantly explores the dynamics of abuse, and the questions of guilt and shame surrounding it. Published in France in 2021, the book sparked an important conversation about incest, and the attitudes and laws that have so often allowed influential men to evade consequences for their crimes.Overcoming Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, 2nd Edition: A self-help guide using cognitive behavioural techniques (Overcoming Books)

trauma and the integration of lives past and present."It became untenable for me to remain silent about a part of my life I had long kept secret. I had to follow the persistent, uncomfortable pull of truth, wherever it would lead me."From the outside looking in, the young life of Mia Döring seemed unremarkable, as she pursued her studies at a prominent Dublin art college, immersed in a vibrant social scene.Unbeknownst to those around her, however, Mia's life was anything but ordinary. At age sixteen, she had been sexually exploited by an older man, which carved a direct path into the Irish sex trade, where she remained for several years until finally leaving it behind over a decade ago, at age twenty-four.In her literary memoir Mia, a psychotherapist specialising in sexual trauma, excavates her difficult history as she sets about integrating her past with her present-day life. Along the way, she presents an ardent and intelligent refutation of a culture that affirms and applauds the industrialised sexual violation of women and girls, ultimately offering something more precious - a way forward for society bedded in true understanding and compassion.Any Girl is a ferociously honest, intensely tender and utterly unforgettable book that is as thought-provoking as it is timely.(P) 2022 Hachette Books IrelandBy offering an empowering personal program of self-care in recovery, this book provides guidance for everyone affected by widespread modern…

By Laura Freeman. 2018
At the age of fourteen, Laura Freeman was diagnosed with anorexia. She had seized the one aspect of her life…
that she seemed able to control, and struck different foods from her diet one by one until she was starving. But even at her lowest point, the one appetite she never lost was her love of reading. As Laura battled her anorexia, she gradually re-discovered how to enjoy food - and life more broadly - through literature. Plum puddings and pottles of fruit in Dickens gave her courage to try new dishes; the wounded Robert Graves' appreciation of a pair of greengages changed the way she thought about plenty and choice; Virginia Woolf's painterly descriptions of bread, blackberries and biscuits were infinitely tempting. Book by book, meal by meal, Laura developed an appetite and discovered an entire library of reasons to live. The Reading Cure is a beautiful, inspiring account of hunger and happiness, about addiction, obsession and recovery, and about the way literature and food can restore appetite and renew hope.Read by Laura Freeman(p) Orion Publishing Group 2018The Opposite of Butterfly Hunting: A powerful memoir of overcoming an eating disorder
By Evanna Lynch. 2021
'Gradually, I began to feel this dawning awareness that womanhood was coming for me, that it was looming inevitably, and…
it didn't feel safe... While those around me tried to expedite it, simulate it, exacerbate it, I tried to strangle it.'A raw and compelling new memoir from actress and activist Evanna Lynch about the battle between perfection and creativity. Evanna Lynch has long been viewed as a role model for people recovering from anorexia and the story of her casting as Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films has reached almost mythic proportions. Yet even after recovery, there remains a conflict at the very core of her being: a bitter struggle between the familiar, anesthetising pursuit of perfection, and the desire to fully and fearlessly embrace her creativity. In her memoir, Evanna confronts all the complexities and contradictions within herself and reveals how she overcame a life-threatening eating disorder, began to conquer her self-hate and confronted her fear of leaving the neatness and safety of girlhood for the unpredictable journey of being a woman. Revealing a startlingly accomplished voice, Evanna uses her book to delve into the very heart of a woman's relationship with her own body. Unwilling to let the darkness of her eating disorder eclipse her dreams, but afraid to fully release the certainty and safety of self-destruction, Evanna explores the pivotal moments and choices in her life that led her down the path of creativity and dreaming and away from the empty pursuit of perfection, and reaches towards acceptance of the wild, sensual and unpredictable reality of womanhood. This is a story of the tragedy and the glory of growing up, of mourning girlhood and stepping into the unknown, and how that act of courage is the most creatively liberating thing a woman can do.(P)2021 Headline Publishing Group LtdBy the Amref activist Nice Leng'ete, one of the TIME's 100 Most Influential People in 2018, an inspirational story of…
one girl who changed the minds of her elders, reformed traditions from the inside, and is creating a better future for girls and women throughout AfricaBorn in a remote village in Kenya, Nice Leng'ete saw the young girls she grew up with receive the cut, the rite of passage into female adulthood in Masai culture. Every girl got the cut, and once you did, you'd be married off to a man triple your age. You might be his second or third wife. You'd have children in your teens. This is exactly what happened to Nice's sister. To resist the cut meant becoming an outcast in Masai culture. Yet Nice managed to avoid it and stay in school. It was not an easy time. She was shunned. At the age of 21, Nice moved to Nairobi to work for Amref Health Africa, an organization spearheading the campaign against Female Genital Mutilation. Though she was still considered an outcast in her village - even an entapai (someone who brought shame to her family) - young girls began to look up to Nice. They saw the life they could have, not the one chosen for them.Eventually, thanks to a combination of incredible instincts, excellent training and leading by example, Nice Leng'ete developed a platform for convincing women across Africa to forego the cut. First, she won over her village elders. It spread from there. Kenya outlawed the cut in 2011, and the Masai people abandoned it in 2014.To date, Nice and Amref Health Africa have collaborated to help more than 16,000 girls avoid FGM in Kenya and Tanzania.(P) 2021 Headline Publishing Group LtdThe Unexpected Joy of Being Sober: THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

Burke debuts a powerful memoir about her own journey to saying those two simple yet infinitely powerful words and how she brought empathy back to an entire generation'Searing. Powerful. Needed.' Oprah'I will never stop thinking about this book.' Glennon DoyleTarana didn't always have the courage to say me too. As a child, she reeled from her sexual assault, believing she was responsible. Unable to confess what she thought of as her own sins for fear of shattering her family, her soul split in two. One side was the bright, intellectually curious third generation Bronxite steeped in Black literature and power, and the other was the bad, shame ridden girl who thought of herself as a vile rule breaker, not of a victim. She tucked one away, hidden behind a wall of pain and anger, which seemed to work... until it didn't. Tarana fought to reunite her fractured soul, through organizing, pursuing justice, and finding community. In her debut memoir she shares her extensive work supporting and empowering Black and brown girls, and the devastating realisation that to truly help these girls she needed to help that scared, ashamed child still in her soul. Tarana has found that we can only offer empathy to others if we first offer it to ourselves. Unbound is the story of an inimitable woman's inner strength and perseverance, all in pursuit of bringing healing to her community and the world around her, but it is also a story of possibility, of empathy, of power, and of the leader we all have inside ourselves. In sharing her path toward healing and saying me too, Tarana reaches out a hand to help us all on our own journeys.(P) 2021 Macmillan AudioAlcoholism Etiology and Treatment: Issues for Theory and Practice (Routledge Revivals)

children from those affects as well as from narcissists, and how to use social media more mindfully. The Facebook Narcissist is the first book dedicated to exploring the relationship between narcissism and social media. Lena Derhally, a licensed psychotherapist certified in Imago therapy, delves into how social media enhances individual and cultural narcissism and how it may create or exacerbate toxic narcissistic tendencies in people who use it. Using her clinical expertise, along with scientific research and interviews with other experts in the field, she thoroughly examines: how narcissism on social media contributes to false narratives and ruptures relationships; how to identify a narcissist on social media (including how to spot the more subtle sub-types of narcissist, such as the covert, communal, and collective narcissist); how narcissism relates to the &“influencer&” and celebrity culture; narcissism and cyberbullying, cyberstalking, trolling, and victim blaming on social media; narcissism related to racism and politics on social media; the ways social media can create a problem of narcissism in children as they grow up, the implications of "sharenting"; and more. Readers will discover case studies and real examples of narcissists and how they present on social media. Derhally&’s expertise in cultivating healthy, fulfilling, and connected relationships helps guide readers to take a deeper look at their behaviors on social media and of those around them. At the end of each chapter, she gives practical tips and takeaways for navigating narcissism online. Since abandoning our devices is impractical and not likely, this book will help readers understand how to use social media in a balanced way that inspires fulfillment and connection instead of the entitlement, attention-seeking, and lack of empathy that is at the heart of narcissism. Derhally also instructs readers on how they may use social media for good, and as a tool for positive social change. Social media is here to stay, but with education and awareness on how it makes us and the world more narcissistic, we can change the narrative and focus on the ways in which social media can be positive, and even improve the world for the better.Out of the Woods: A Memoir
