Dans un match de football, ce n'est pas seulement la victoire de son équipe qui donne du plaisir, mais la compétition en elle-même. Fondamentalement, l'histoire de chaque sport est donc liée à l'apparition de règlements de plus en plus rigoureux qui ont uniformisé les pratiques sportives dans le but de maîtriser le déploiement ou le spectacle de la violence.
