This book focuses on a central success factor for family businesses: maintaining the decision-making ability over generations while not jeopardizing…
the business due to family conflict, inefficient governance structures, or lack of identification. The authors identify that this is not as easy as the endeavor to bring two social systems together with contradicting logic (family and business) leads to many dangerous pitfalls. This book presents outcomes of a unique research project in which family managers of eleven of the oldest and largest German family businesses, at least the fourth generation, met for more than three years on a regular basis and presented the essence of their family governance structures to each other and to the authors. It was a joint “learning journey” that admits identifying twelve core questions that these families had been answering to keep up the relationship between family and business successfully over generations. Obviously, there is no “right” answer to these questions. The key to success is rather engaging the families in a process to find out their own answers and make them aware of the “two sides”: being a family is different from being a business family.By Julian Stern, Cordelia Friesendorf. 2020

A Social History of Sheffield Boxing combines urban ethnography and anthropology, sociological theory and place and life histories to explore the…
global phenomenon of boxing. Raising many issues pertinent to the social sciences, such as contestations around state regulation of violence, commerce and broadcasting, pedagogy and elite sport and how sport is delivered and narrated to the masses, the book studies the history of boxing in Sheffield and the sport’s impact on the cultural, political and economic development of the city since the 18th century. Interweaving urban anthropology with sports studies and historical research the text expertly examines a variety of published sources, ranging from academic papers to biographies and from newspaper reports to case studies and contemporary interviews. In Volume II, Bell and Armstrong examine the revival of Sheffield boxing after the decline of the 1950s and 1960s outlined in Volume I. Instigated by two men from outside the city—Brendan Ingle and Herol Graham—this renaissance became known as the ‘Ingle style,’ which between 1995 and 2014 produced four world champions: Naseem Hamed, Johnny Nelson, Junior Witter and Kell Brook. These successes inspired others and raised Sheffield’s profile as a boxing city, which in the 1990s and 2000s produced two more world champions in Paul ‘Silky’ Jones and Clinton Woods. In this second volume, Bell and Armstrong track the resurgence of boxing to the present day and consider how the game and its players have changed over time.By David S.-K. and refinement of the Austrian school of economics. It argues that Frank Knight, Frank Fetter, Herbert Davenport, Philip Wicksteed and J.B. Clark among others improved on the original Austrian theory by Menger and Bohm-Bawerk by providing a coherent subjectivist foundation for the theories of production and distribution. They succeeded where economic theory before them failed – to develop the theories of interest, profit, wages and rents based solely on the principles of subjective value and marginal utility, eschewing the last remnants of the old cost of production models. This book represents a look at what mainstream economic theory might have looked like had the erasure of Mengerian Austrian price theory by Marshallian and Walrasian thoeries not taken place, and had the improvements and refinements of the Mengerian tradition, itself done by the Anglo-Saxon followers of Menger, been fully appropriated.By Charles Horngren, Walter Harrison, C. This book is developed by focusing on the four issues: (1) product strategy of private brand; (2) pricing strategy of…
private brand; (3) channel strategy with private brand introduction; and (4) supply chain coordination with private brand introduction. Private brand (PB), also known as private label (PL) or store brand (SB), refers to a brand created and controlled by a retailer. In the 1960s and 1970s, private labels began to emerge in France and England. Although private label has grown rapidly worldwide, market share varies greatly from region to region. According to Nielsen's 2018 Global Private Label Report, the largest markets for private-label products are found primarily in the more mature European retail markets. In recent years, many large domestic retail enterprises have launched their own brand products. With the growth of e-commerce, some online retailers have also launched private-label goods. JD started to introduce its private brands in 2010, with annual sales of its private brand products reaching several hundred million yuan. However, at present, the market share of China's private label is only 1-3%, which still has a big gap compared with Europe and America. The main challenges to China's private label lie in private brand operations management. Among them, how to select the correct product categories, how to make pricing decision, how to restructure channels and how to coordinate supply chain after introducing private brands are four operations management problems need to be solved.By Ellie Okada. 2021

Students and researchers in the health sciences are faced with greater opportunity and challenge than ever before. The opportunity stems…
from the explosion in publicly available data that simultaneously informs and inspires new avenues of investigation. The challenge is that the analytic tools required go far beyond the standard methods and models of basic statistics. This textbook aims to equip health care researchers with the most important elements of a modern health analytics toolkit, drawing from the fields of statistics, health econometrics, and data science. This textbook is designed to overcome students’ anxiety about data and statistics and to help them to become confident users of appropriate analytic methods for health care research studies. Methods are presented organically, with new material building naturally on what has come before. Each technique is motivated by a topical research question, explained in non-technical terms, and accompanied by engaging explanations and examples. In this way, the authors cultivate a deep (“organic”) understanding of a range of analytic techniques, their assumptions and data requirements, and their advantages and limitations. They illustrate all lessons via analyses of real data from a variety of publicly available databases, addressing relevant research questions and comparing findings to those of published studies. Ultimately, this textbook is designed to cultivate health services researchers that are thoughtful and well informed about health data science, rather than data analysts. This textbook differs from the competition in its unique blend of methods and its determination to ensure that readers gain an understanding of how, when, and why to apply them. It provides the public health researcher with a way to think analytically about scientific questions, and it offers well-founded guidance for pairing data with methods for valid analysis. Readers should feel emboldened to tackle analysis of real public datasets using traditional statistical models, health econometrics methods, and even predictive algorithms. industry. At the same time, the book provides a solid foundation for understanding the dramatic process of financial globalization specifically in the emerging Balkans. More elaborately, the book examines financial trends and developments of eight countries in the emerging Balkans defined to include: Albania, B&H, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Romania. Building on this background, this book addresses issues related to the emerging Balkans in terms of financial development compared with the benchmark of mature economies and highlights issues related to the growing impact of financial globalization, global trade, and FDI flows. It brings the focus onto the recent trends in Intra-Balkan trade liberalization and cooperation through the transition process and on the eve of EU membership. It also assesses progress made in banking development, stock market development, and economic growth and critically examines financial trends in the emerging Balkans and changes in its financial landscape. This book expands on the literature on the characteristics of management boards by especially focusing on family-listed and family-controlled companies,…
as they are ideal for studying board heterogeneity. It uses specific multidimensional indices and in-depth econometric analysis to introduce new variables, such as international experience, that represent a source of competitive advantage for firms in today’s globalized world. In addition, by examining the heterogeneity ratio and the representation of independent and family directors, the book demonstrates how family-controlled firms use independent directors to import their heterogeneous expertise. The book makes a threefold contribution: for regulators, it offers suggestions on improving the quality of reporting in family-controlled firms; for researchers, it demonstrates the importance of including directors’ characteristics apart from the firm-specific factors in their analyses; and for practitioners, it shows that selecting directors with specific characteristics can have a substantial impact on firms’ performance.By Gunnar Mau, Markus Schweizer, Christoph Oriet. 2021
