Acts of Faith Journeys to Sacred India is a sensitive and enriching exploration of the essential meaning and inner dynamics of sacred India Through a series of deeply textured narratives of well-known masters ashrams and sacred sites it engages with that area of contemporary India where the profane and the sacred intersect each transforming the other This unusual pilgrimage shows how the pathway to the Divine is plural and open rather than closed or restricted While there are many travel books on India few combine an inquiry into the meaning of India with actual visits to sacred sites encounters with contemporary gurus and reflections on perennial themes like faith and love Using both textual sources and actual experiences Acts of Faith tries to define what constitutes the sacred making for a highly interesting cartography of India of the spiritBy Elisha Cooper. 2008

followed eight kids in particular, mostly seniors, through their entire year, and by telling their specific stories-of classes, extra-curriculars, friends, romances, and family-he gives us a more general picture of what it's like to be a high school student today. Part documentary, part soap opera, part sketchbook, this is an eye-opening, thoroughly entertaining account-one that will appeal equally to readers who are looking forward to high school and those who are looking back.By Les Feast. 2016

the essays in this volume, many of which had originally appeared in 1888, though some date back to the early 1880s. It was published in 1892, two years before Stevenson's untimely death. Colvin obtained many of the pieces from their original publishers, including magazines such as Fraser's, Longman's, The Magazine of Art and Scribner's. What is particularly noteworthy about this collection is that although Stevenson had settled in the South Seas well before it appeared, all the items included were written prior to his journey there. Colvin mentions that the concluding pieces in particular were written during a period of considerable gloom and sickness for Stevenson, who himself claimed to 'recover peace of body and mind' after moving to the Pacific in 1890.By Brendan Lloyd. 2015

This book is an essential exploration into the history of a legendary group of Crusaders, which are prominently featured in…
Dan Brown's recent best seller, The Da Vinci Code. The Knights Templar rose from humble beginnings to become the most powerful military religious order of the Middle Ages. Formed to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land, they participated in the Crusades and rapidly gained wealth, lands, and influence. Seemingly untouchable for nearly two centuries, they fell from grace spectacularly after the loss of the Holy Land. In the ensuing centuries the Templars have exerted a unique influence over European history; orthodox historians see them as nothing more than soldier-monks whose arrogance was their ultimate undoing, while others see them as occultists of the first order. With clarity and ease, Martin navigates between the orthodox and the speculative, the historical and the myth, to bring alive the story of the Templars. Like those other legends of the Middle Ages--the characters of the Arthurian tales--The Knights Templar holds captive the imagination of all those intrigued by conspiracy and how history and myth intertwine to become the stuff of legend.By Dan O'Neill. 2006

a year." So begins a remarkable narrative of one man's journey learning to hear the voice of God. In Walking wtih God by John Eldredge, the details are intimate and personal. The invitation is for us all. What if we could hear from God . . . often? What difference would it make? All day long we are making choices. It adds up to an enormous amount of decisions in a lifetime. How do we know what to do? We have two options. We can trudge through on our own, doing our best to figure it all out. Or, we can walk with God. As in, learn to hear his voice. Really. We can live life with God. He offers to speak to us and guide us. Every day. It is an incredible offer. To accept that offer is to enter into an adventure filled with joy and risk, transformation and breakthrough. And more clarity than we ever thought possible.By R. Conrad Stein. 1983
