The Rag Doll was blessed with many friends ― the Wisk Broom, the Furnace Shovel, and the Coffee Pot among…
them ― but when it came time to marry, she chose the Broom Handle. On the day of their wedding, the bride and groom were attended by a fantastical procession of well-wishers: the Spoon Lickers, the Tin Pan Bangers, the Easy Ticklers, the Musical Soup Eaters, and other whimsical characters, all marching along in a manner befitting their extraordinary names. This tale of wedding pomp and madcap mirth comes from poet Carl Sandburg's classic book of American fairy tales, The Rootabaga Stories. Marvelous drawings by Harriet Pincus, a noted illustrator of children's books, enhance the tale. Out of print for years, the book is now available in a new edition that introduces the story and its gloriously antic art to a new generation of parade-lovers, wedding-goers, and everyone who enjoys a fanciful celebration.By Rosanna Ley. 2015

little while before being dismissed. While I was hovering in bed barely asleep, my father would sneak in to check on me. Sometimes he came in the shape of a stranger, but his black eyes with a mark of sorrow never changed. When I was younger I could run so fast my shadow would fly off me. I would leave it behind in the city where I was born. There was no city, only my mother's arms. Dear grief, hermetic as a goat's skull. The future where you are, but how to get there except waiting another year. The narrator in Thomas Heise's adventurous novel tries to fuse together his present and past, abandonment by his parents, childhood in an orphanage, and a strong sense of disconnection from his adult life. The story is written in columnar, densely lyrical sections, looping and vertiginously dropping into the speaker's past, across several cities in Europe. W.G. Sebald, Samuel Beckett, and Michelangelo Antonioni's films come to mind, especially L'Avventura and Red Desert. Heise's language is precise (dirigibles "no larger than a fennel seed") and his lush, unfolding sentences offer a great, gorgeous pleasure. Moth is a haunting, one-of-a-kind novel that will stay with the reader for a long, long time.Thomas Heise is the author of Horror Vacui: Poems and Urban Underworlds: A Geography of Twentieth-Century American Literature and Culture. He teaches at McGill University.By Clement Clark Moore, T. C. Boyd. 2012
“'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house / Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse”…
-From The Night Before Christmas The Night Before Christmas, originally published as A Visit from St. Nicholas on December 23, 1823, in the Troy Sentinel, became America’s favorite Christmas poem. After the poem was published anonymously, it was attributed to CLEMENT CLARK MOORE in 1837. However, scholars have debated the identity of the author of this poem and some believe it was written by Henry Livingston, Jr., (1748–1828), a New York farmer who also wrote poetry. The Night Before Christmas has had a great influence on the American notion of Santa Claus and on its tradition of Christmas gift-giving, which, before the poem, had been inspired by the Dutch figure of St. Nicholas. This unique edition of the famed Christmas poem, features the original engravings, from 1849, by T.C. Boyd. This American classic is a great gift for the Christmas season as well as for collectors of traditional American literature.By Margaret Tarrant, Marian Russell Heath. 2011

The Harbinger II will open up the mysteries of the Watchmen, the Half Moon, the Day of Tammuz, the Parchment…
in the Ruins, the Tree, the Inscription, the Image, the Eastern Gate, and much, much more. It will ultimately lead to mysteries concerning the future, which include the Window, the Island, the Other Mystery Ground, and the Prophecy. As with The Harbinger, the revelations of The Harbinger II are completely real and manifesting in the events of our times. And as with the first book, the mysteries are revealed through a narrative. So, The Harbinger II will bring the return of Nouriel, Ana Goren, and the mysterious figure known as “the prophet.” The prophet will now take up the revelation where he left off and open mysteries as stunning and mind-blowing as in the first book. The mysteries will be opened up, as in the prophet’s first appearance, through the giving of ancient seals, but also in dreams and through a little girl as mysterious as the prophet. In The Harbinger II you will be taken on an epic journey from the shores of New England, to the steps of the Supreme Court, to the towering heights of a Manhattan skyscraper, to a boat on the Hudson River, even to the White House and the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. One thing is for certain: when you finish reading The Harbinger II, you will never see the world the same again. A New York Times BestsellerBy Rosanna Ley. 2015

A stunning modern epic that innovatively combines noir narrative and lyrical poetry, The Long Take follows Walker, a survivor of…
D-Day, from bucolic Cape Breton to an America beset by paranoia and corruption.Walker is a D-Day veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder; he can’t return home to rural Nova Scotia, and looks instead to the city for freedom, anonymity, and repair. As he finds his way from New York to Los Angeles and San Francisco, we witness a crucial period of fracture in American history, one that also allowed film noir to flourish. The Dream had gone sour but — as those dark, classic movies made clear — the country needed outsiders to study and dramatize its new anxieties. Both an outsider and, gradually, an insider, Walker finds work as a journalist, and tries to piece his life together as America is beginning to come apart: riven by social and racial divisions, spiraling corruption, and the collapse of the inner cities. An epic for the modern world, it is a tale of damaged people trying to find kindness in the world, of cynicism and paranoia, and of redemption. Robin Robertson's fluid verse pans with filmic immediacy across the postwar urban scene — and into the heart of an unforgettable character. The Long Take is a genre-crossing work of stunning originality, beauty, and immediacy.By Nicky Pellegrino. 2017
